Would this be a good buy? ADVICE

So I’m a 17 year old I’m still in school and work full time but my current car (05 Pontiac vibe) is starting to show signs of a failing trans so I have been looking and found a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 se with 75k miles for right about 4500 but it’s a salvage title from a very minor accident. I’m just wondering if these cars are reliable and be worth my money haha thank you. Oh yeah I think the price is pretty normal compared to other altimas I looked at with similar year and mileage .

Nissans with CVTs (which this car will have) are famous for transmission problems. The CVTs used with V6s are supposed to be better than the 4 cylinders, but check around to confirm this.

You are probably better off to spend money repairing your Vibe than replacing it with a $4500 car. This assumes your car isn't worth much due to the transmission.

It might be worth while getting the transmission diagnosed. Sometimes they can be repaired for not that much money. The Vibe uses a regular transmission with gears, so there's hope.

Some of my family has had some really good luck with cvts from Nissan so I’m not to worried about it and If it was going to go out I would get rid of it lol

Stay away from Nissan.

Not a good buy. Thats the first year of their CVT. They claim the newest ones are more reliable but I'd almost expect that one to be dead by 100k miles.

its a 2nd year of cvt plus one of my co workers has a 09 4 cylinder with over 185k on the original engine and cvt , also looking at a altima because my mom has a 2015 with over 180k on original trans and engine.

Not a good car. Not a good buy. A terrible buy for an 18yo car with salvage title. This is a $2500-3000 car on a good day.
