Yeah!! If you don't have an overpriced phone from the least consumer friendly company on the planet, you shouldn't even record a video!!
EDIT: Guy was like "third disaster is recording on an Android" lmao

If you're recording video with your John Deere tractor, that would be a bit of a disaster.

Microsoft stopped making phones tho
1
u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
Microsoft is far from the best but they're also far from the worst. I'd rank them between "meh" and "below average".
0
u/Tumblrrito 1d ago
Personally they’re firmly in being among the worst. Their shady shit in Windows 10/11 is laughably anti consumer. Not even Apple hijacks your use of one product to force their own onto you the way Microsoft does with Bing and Edge. They also reinstall and reenable things you’ve removed or disabled and add third party services to your device without your consent. Meanwhile Windows Recall is plain creepy.

u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
I can't even say anything, I'm currently playing Helldivers 2 on Linux because I left Windows after the Recall announcement. XD

You're acting like flagship Androids aren't just as expensive as iPhones.
Edit: this sub is full of idiots. Downvote even harder if I'm right.
31
u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
You're acting like Android is one big company and they only make flagships.
-39
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
How? You mentioned overpriced, but top end Androids are in the same price bracket.
30
u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
Overpriced and expensive are two different things.
All Apple products are overpriced because they know their fanbase will pay it.
Android customers can shop around for the right phone from the right brand without leaving the Android ecosystem, so Android pricing is much more aligned with the realistic value of the parts inside the phone.
The iPhone 16 Pro costs $999 for the 128GB model and $1499 for the 1TB model. A terabyte of storage does not cost $500. The 128GB model exists purely so they can claim it's less than $1000 and then upcharge you by 50% to get the real one.
-3
u/me-teen 1d ago
Can you call it overpriced if people are willing to pay it?
5
-1
u/P47r1ck- 1d ago
I suspect a lot less people would be willing to pay for it if it wasn’t for the interest free payments you can make as long as you are stuck with your provider for a couple years
-32
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
Overpriced and expensive are two different things.
They're also subjective.
All Apple products are overpriced because they know their fanbase will pay it.
Are they? Is the M4 Mac Mini overpriced? Is it even expensive? Some stuff is overpriced, some stuff isn't. To say that everything isnoveprirced is just fanboy ignorance.
Android customers can shop around for the right phone from the right brand without leaving the Android ecosystem, so Android pricing is much more aligned with the realistic value of the parts inside the phone.
This isn't true. Like you said, Android isn't an homogeneous manufacturer. They have their own ecosystems within.
Android pricing starts from borderline useless potato phones, to high end feature rich flagships. Apple starts at mid range only. That's the main difference.
The iPhone 16 Pro costs $999 for the 128GB model and $1499 for the 1TB model. A terabyte of storage does not cost $500. The 128GB model exists purely so they can claim it’s less than $1000 and then upcharge you by 50% to get the real one.
Apple's pricing on storage is ludicrous, but that isn't what your initial assertion was, and every storage model gets you the same experience.

I have an S24+
With trade in (S21) on reorder it cost £580. It came with a free watch I sold for £120. I also got a year of free Disney+, which saved my £100.
It's not the S24 Ultra, but still good enough to be top end. £360 upgrade using a 3 year old phone seems like a pretty good deal to me.
IPhones do retain value much better though, but still, cost of ownership over time would be significantly higher.
1
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
You can't use trade ins as part of your cost analysis, that's a ridiculous notion.
2
u/JustAnotherFEDev 1d ago
Why is it? They offer an enhanced trade in at preorder. The phone was £1200 RRP as it also came with a free storage upgrade.
I would have struggled to get £200 for a 3 year old phone on Ebay, etc.
I do this every 3 years. My cost of ownership and upgrades is on a 3 year cycle. Trading in literally reduces the cost.
I'd expect an iPhone user to factor in the sale of their old phone, too. In fact, I used to be an iPhone owner, I got a new one every year from the 3G up until the 6s and I used to factor in selling my old one when buying a new one.
Even without the trade in, it was still significantly less, due to promotions, etc.
I'm not hating on iPhones, I'm just stating fact that Samsung are actually cheaper. Apple do fine keeping RRP constant, Samsung run promotions most of the year, thus making the phone cheaper than the similar RRP of an iPhone Pro Max.
1
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
Because trade ins exist for iPhones as well...
I'm not saying you can't mention trade ins, but that your phone costing "only" £300odd isn't relevant to buying the phone at full retail.

Do you know how Android works? It's not the brand of phone. I have Samsung, but there are Android phones for $50 or less. They're just lower quality than higher end brands. Assuming that you were referring to only the high-end brands, they are ridiculously expensive, but they have the utility to back up the price. There are so many things that Android devices can do that Apple can't do, or is just starting to do and acting like it was their idea. We pay for the utility of the device based on our needs. You pay to say, "I have an iPhone. Look at me, I'm clearly superior, right? " lol

u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
Do you know how Android works? It’s not the brand of phone.
It doesn't matter. It's the operating system, even if other manufacturers state that they're using their own flavour. It's still at its core the same operating system, and high end phones that run Android are in the same price bracket as high end phones...
I have Samsung, but there are Android phones for $50 or less. They’re just lower quality than higher end brands. Assuming that you were referring to only the high-end brands, they are ridiculously expensive, but they have the utility to back up the price.
It was quite obvious that I was talking about that since that's what I said.
There are so many things that Android devices can do that Apple can’t do, or is just starting to do and acting like it was their idea.
List these so many things.
We pay for the utility of the device based on our needs.
Who's this "we" and "our"?
You pay to say, “I have an iPhone. Look at me, I’m clearly superior, right? “ lol
Do I? "lol" because you're spouting off a lot of bullshit in response to me simply stating that high end Androids are priced the same as high end iPhones. A bunch of piss babies seem to have gotten offended by this.
1
u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
I'm gonna RES tag you as "android bad" so I know not to listen to you if I come across you again.
1
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
You can do what you want. I never said Android was bad though. So if you want to pretend I said things I didn't, that's a you problem.
1
u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
If you can think of a better tag, feel free to suggest one!
"Android flagships are just as expensive as iPhones therefore they are equally as overpriced" is a bit too long.
1
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
Why are you being weird? Flagship iPhones and Androids are in the same price brackets. Why are you offended by this?
1
u/SavvySillybug 1d ago
Costing an amount and being overpriced is still not the same. We talked about this.
I can sell you a kick to the shin for $1 and it's overpriced because why would you pay for that? Doesn't mean that an ice cream is overpriced for being in the same price bracket.
1
u/FlarblesGarbles 1d ago
It's irrelevant. Overpriced is subjective. Cost isn't. You're offended that I said they're priced the same, and seemed to get butthurt about it for some reason.

Why tf did they not evacuate?
8
u/Tip0311 22h ago
Heard these were workers in the neighborhood that forced their way into this home for shelter from the fire front. This was around 10am, so the residents were probably at work or out. The workers found the dog home alone. Firefighters arrived shortly and evacuated both workers & dog

Get out of that house NOW! Those windows will shatter and then things flash over.
No doubt the tv mount and fireplace will be the only things standing in the end.
5
u/Chilly-Peppers 1d ago
Fire and Rescue Services will generally tell you to stay indoors if you haven't already evacuated by the time a wildfire surrounds your property. Leaving the house at this point is basically suicide.

TV looks good. They should leave or already have evacuated
5
u/conuly 1d ago
If you wait too long to evacuate, for whatever reason, you eventually end up in a position where it's no longer safe to evacuate and your best option is to shelter in place. And this is true for all sorts of disaster situations, not just wildfires.
Take a look at that video. How do you think they're getting out?
