I’ve recently been made aware that a lot of younger Star Wars fans (understandably) aren’t aware that Sebastian Shaw was the original ghost of Anakin, and that Hayden was edited onto Sebastian’s body in 2004. So this is for those who might not know! Meta

4K77 is the way to go

It's a straight up 4K version of the og movie no dvd frankenstein stuff going on like despecialized

I haven’t seen 4k77 but the despecialized edition is a good way to watch the original trilogy. Not just episode 4 and 6(and maybe soon episode 5).

4k77 and 4k83 are pristine. They are still working on 4k80. There's no better way to see the other 2.

IIRC they have different goals, 4K77 aims to be as close to the original theatrical experience as possible, while Despecialized is cleaned up, things like bad mattes, color correction, transparent cockpits, etc, without changing the structure.

I believe Harmy has said he might do a new Despecialized based on 4K77

I know that color correction is done, but are you sure about the rest of those? I feel like I remembering seeing on a comparison gallery (which I'm struggling to find again) that he put back in stuff like the original mattes.

I’ll have to check them out.

Yes! Even if you watch 4K77 in the 1080p release its better than anything out there when it comes to maintaining the original theatrical release version. TN1 are absolutely magicians for pulling this off!

I saw the comparison before and after they cleaned the film and I have to agree.

Yeah I didn't mean to knock the good work he did for despecialized. 4k77 and the rest are original film reels scanned at 4k and there's a version with some digital noise reduction.

Despecialized is definitely as faithful to the originals while still taking some good improvements.

I think people should at least see the originals at least once

Ok, where might a person go to get this please?

I can't link directly due to sub rules but they are on most torrent sites, just search 4k77 and 4k83

Dnr version means digital noise reduction which has less film grain

Awesome, had a feeling that was the case but just wanted to check in case I was missing something. Thank you!

Yeah sorry but honestly despecialized or 4k77 are good. Pros and cons for each really.

Is that done now? I remember seeing a teaser for it ages ago, thinking it would be years away.

I downloaded it a few years ago
