In only 2 years, Hayden Christensen will be the same age as Darth Vader in A New Hope. Meta

Hayden Christensen was born in 1981, so he's 39 now. Anakin Skywalker was born in 41 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin, a.k.a. A New Hope). I just thought that's crazy.

I don't know what you do about that. Jones's voice is already starting to loose a lot of it's presence. He didn't sound the same in Rebels and Rogue One. It was even apparent in the new Lion King. They must have some contingency plan in mind. Not trying to jinx him (knocking on wood), but older folks can pass on rather quickly and unexpectedly.

When I first watched Rogue One i thought they used somebody else to do Vaders voice.

Hopefully they are able to clone his voice (with permission of course) for future projects, he has such an iconic voice in general but his voice IS Vader.

I read somewhere that he didn't really even want credit for his voice in the OT because he viewed it less as acting and more as a special effect. Times have changed though and I'm pretty sure in later works in Star Wars he does get credited.

Source for his opinion on crediting but it looks like it was removed from the IMDB trivia page.

With a character that you cant see the facial movements the voice has a lot more of an impact than usual.

I have massive respect for Prowse and the job he did but I don’t feel that Vader would be as big an icon if the voice wasn’t redubbed.

Eh I guess but apparently he held a grudge about the dub for years and thought it was "reverse racism":

David Prowse, the actor in the Darth Vader suit, was still disgruntled more than twenty years after the movie's release about the fact that his voice was replaced by James Earl Jones. In an interview with the Canadian press, Prowse claimed that he was a victim of "reverse racism" because the cast had no black members, and the studio was worried they would lose a significant slice of the audience. However, Jones wasn't credited in the original movie, so no one knew a black actor voiced Vader.

They must have some contingency plan in mind.

Like hire any halfway decent voice actor? It's a heavily modified robot voice for a guy behind a mask, replacing him is really no big deal. The sweaty Star Wars fanboys aside, most people wouldn't even notice.

They already have a voice double that does VO for Star Wars video games and shows. His name is Scott Lawrence.

Chad Vader Matt Sloan voiced Vader in most things 2008-2017. They seem to be using Scott Lawrence more now, he voiced Vader in BF 2005 before Matt.

Aka computers. Probably got him to record a shit of of noises/ words and vocabulary.

Right now we can get a computer to recreate someone's voice with the right collection of sounds. Ew cannot, with current technology, get a voice to emote. It's just gonna be a deadpan Siri or Alexa tone to it.

For some reason, I thought he had passed some time ago. I was young and distinctly remember me and my parents discussing his passing and lamenting his work as Darth Vader. It wasn’t until I watched a YouTube video about him reprising his role as Darth Vader that I realized he wasn’t actually dead. That was probably like a 4-5 year difference within that time. I loathe the concept of the Mandela Effect for various reason, but that’s the closest I’ve ever experienced the phenomenon.
