I'd guess he's not a professional (that's not a professional's camera), just a guy who thought he'd be clever and catch the bird to get a close-up shot. Or possibly it's dead. He's gross either way.

Most people don’t assume you hate all Americans if you talk about obnoxious American tourists, and Chinese tourists are certainly competitive in that field, probably (IMO) because they haven’t really had a lot of experience with tourism until relatively recently, so travel etiquette hasn’t really taken hold yet. Could be at least partially cultural too, but I’d like to cut them a little slack.

In Chinese American, but it's definitely a culture thing. Chinese people are used to that sort of thing in China, so they do the same in other countries. It also is worsened since there's a lot more Chinese tourists than other Asians and other nationalities. It's not being racist, it just facts, and China has taken a few steps at solving this culture issue
