2800lbs with 4 seats since 2013, 100+ hp/L naturally aspirated a, 6 speed manual and rack and pinion steering at under 30k. People complain about power because people live to complain and it's the only complaint anyone can leverage against the Toyobaru as a driver's car.

Lets turn this argument around shall we? People can only talk about how well it handles because it would probably lose in a drag race against a v6 camry. For the american market a brand new brz is hard to justify since for half of the price you get a used corvette c5 z06 thats only 300lbs heavier with twice the power STOCK and we all know how well these chevy engines can take upgrades. Its a good car but its not a good bang for your buck car.

Depends on what your getting the car for. It’s not all about straight line speed and power.

u/Oscer7 Nov 01 '20
Then get a Miata for 1/5th the price. I love the GT86 but it is kinda overpriced.

You mean kind of like the AE86 it's named after compared to V6 FWD 4 doors of 1985 to 1987? If all you care about is doing one wheel peels at the drag strip in a straight line, there's literally hundreds of options. There probably isn't a single other car in production right now with 4 seats, RWD and weighing under 3000lbs, whereas I couldn't tell you the practical differences between an Accord, Camry, Maxima, Mazda6, Fusion and Malibu.

Yes the ae86 was good FOR THE TIME but youre telling technology hasn't evoled in the last 30 years to make even the smaller engines considerably more powerful. Youre talking as if turbocharging hadn't become common practice especially on sports cars. Aside from that youre talking about the rear as if they were such an amazing revolution but unless youre a midget or an amputee they are pretty much unusable. The cars absolutely needs to be that light because since the engine is so underpowered, if it was any heavier it probably would not move at all.

u/driftej20 Nov 01 '20
The point of it is that like the AE86, it's basically a car that doesn't exist anymore. If you want a car with a turbo, you don't even have to look. BMW didn't have any turbo gas cars like 10 years ago and now you can't get one without a turbo. Honda's on their way to be the same. People need to stop complaining that the BRZ/GT86 isn't like everything else. The future where every car has a turbo and high-revving N/A engines are dead and everything is 4000lbs will come soon enough without bashing the holdouts.

People justifying its handling might be related to the fact that its a sports car. That was the intended purpose. Look at all the marketing leading up to and shortly after its release. Nobody said it would be a rocket, but everyone knew it was built for fun. So I don't see any issue in criticising people who point out faults in something it was never designed to do.

at under 30k
There's so many different options that could smoke a GT86 for that price point. From Corvettes to Mustangs to used Maseratis to even Porsche 911s.
It's a nice car but it is overpriced for what it is.

If you think that new cars' MSRP has to beat the performance per dollar proposition of the used market, then car manufacturers should just close down because nobody can win against that sort of asinine logic.

Alright then asshole let's assume a used FRS then. Used ones still run 10-20k. My argument is the same minus the 911. You happy?

Everything under 600 mph is slow for some automotive Karens who drive a '92 VW Golf irl

The best are the high end car enthusiasts who look down on everyone not driving a luxury brand, because their "luxury" 2001 3series is in pristine condition. Meanwhile its worth less than a Ford focus.

u/Mackiekayman Oct 31 '20

u/copa111 Oct 31 '20
When you can only go 100km/h (60mp/h), handing and fun imo is better. Who cares if it's too speed is 300 when you lose your license 40km over the speed limit.

That car has 30 more horsepower than my base model Forester. They ain't fast. They are fun to drive though.

u/Canadianman64 Oct 31 '20
It is a really fast car. Im kind of confused too, but i think its a diss on the car itself maybe?
5
u/random-wander Oct 31 '20
It isn’t too fast actually it makes less power than a Camry hybrid. But it is a fun as hell car to drive.

u/Canadianman64 Oct 31 '20
This a gt86? I think with the right engine upgrades it would wipe any camrys ass lol
6
u/random-wander Oct 31 '20
Yeah it can, you would be out of your mind to not mod the car in some way, but in stock configuration it makes less.

The GT86/BRZ/FRS isnt meant to be fast, it, just like the miata, feels fast, when driving it, but isnt fast

Slow- car fast is always better than fast-car fast
