Local Vibes Has Utah Skiing Reached Its Breaking Point?

A solid rundown from PeakRankings of the stresses facing Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude, and of course Park City, and how things have gotten so much worse the last handful of years.

Negative stresses covered in the video include: EPIC, IKON, traffic, labor, growth, public transportation, and parking.

Local Vibes Everyone quit?

I was wondering, not suggesting, if all us townfolk quit working at all Vail locations ( north face, Patagonia, lodges, lifts, etc) would they GTFO? Maybe sell back to Powdr or Alterra? (Remember when Vail tried to get the rights to “park city”? 🤦🏻‍♂️)

Local Vibes 84098 is not park city (proper)

Curious what the history is of why 84098 is not actually Park City. Although the ZIP code is Park City, it's not Park City proper for those that don't know in my mind, Park City is all nearby communities, canyons, summit Park, J ranch, Redstone, etc. But really these are not part of Park City proper which is interesting because there's different zoning laws, rules, regulations, officials, etc.

Any ideas or insights? Why Park City doesn't annex these areas? Pros are cons to either approach? Not advocating either way, just trying to learn.

Both the Snowbird snowpack monitoring station and Thayne’s Canyon on the Park City side are at record lows, with Thayne’s at 42% of normal and Snowbird reporting just 32% of normal.

Local Vibes IF YOU PARK AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, USE THE DAMN PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL TO GET BACK TO YOUR CAR.

If you are parking at the High School to ski Park City, when you get dropped off at the end of the day back at the HS it will likely be at a bus stop across the street from the parking lot. THERE IS A PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL behind the bus stop that gets you across the street and you don't have to dodge traffic.

A woman died the other day trying to cross across the surface (and she was local). Today I nearly hit some tourists trying to cross. The tunnel is not marked for whatever reason, but it's there.

/edit. Here is what I mean: https://imgur.com/a/nzOUK9T

Take the tunnel. Thanks.

Local Vibes Postive Park City Vibes Thread

It’s been not a great month in Park City to end the year. There is a lot to complain about. Low snow fall, the ongoing strike, power outages, visitor frustration, and more.

But what in Park City has brought you joy or made you grateful recently? Maybe you got great service, had an amazing meal, or just appreciated something or someone.

For me it was seeing a young relative with an accessibility challenge ski for the first time with the National Ability Center last week. They had a blast. Dale at the NAC is a magician - massive thanks to you dude. And of course seeing solidarity from so many towards the Ski Patrol.

Who or what do you want to give a positive vibe shout out to as the year comes to a close?. Positive vibes only.

Local Vibes Cost for tree christmas lights

Solve a family argument for us visitors, how much does it cost (or how is it priced) for people to have a company to professionally put up lights on the trees in the yards or at the displays?

Local Vibes Most cost effective base grind?

Hey folks, I do the majority of my own (and my families) ski tuning, but the time has come to get some bases ground (which I can’t do properly). Where is the most cost effective place in Park City (or in the valley if it is substantially cheaper). I have 8 pairs of skis to do, so prices matter! I can do my own bevels and side edges (and waxing and base repairs). Suggestions?

Local Vibes When do Christmas decorations typically get removed in PC?

Hey guys! It’s my first year living here. So far, Christmas has been magical but I’ve had too many guests over and haven’t had the chance to see some of the hotel holiday decor which I love doing! I’d like to hop around hotels tomorrow (Jan 1) will they be taking them off during this time already? Are some of them already removed? What about Main Street? When does PC usually lose its holiday decor?

Back where I’m from we celebrate Christmas well into January so this is new to me.

Also, Happy NYE!

Willow Creek ice is closed and the city park ice is in very poor condition. Does anybody know if Willow Creek will open soon, the city park ice will be fixed, or if there are any other public outdoor places to skate?

Local Vibes Park City Local & Visitor Chat Channels Open

All,

The Reddit Gods finally blessed/cursed us with Park City Chat Channels. We are going to give them a go. We have created two channels.

  1. PC Local Chat - just want to chit chat or vent about things happening locally, provide a critique of your favorite mega-pass resort, share a cool local photo, or just scream into the Park City void. Go at it. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParkCity/s/xtmUw4maRX

  2. Visitor Questions & Chat - visiting and have a quick question or thought? Chat here. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParkCity/s/rfZSgndsNm

More an experiment at the moment to see if any demand there to use them / potentially as part of the "reduction of common question posts" for visitors and maybe build some community outside of posts for locals.

I expect conversation will be looser there - but the same rules including around no harassment, no asking for illegal substances, no advertising apply.

Need help finding chat channels - see Reddit Help article here -> https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15012434519316-What-are-chat-channels
