Grew up there but moved recently. Love the natural beauty and summers, hate the cost of living and traffic.

Neighbour from the north here. Still love it, but definitely lost some of the pre-covid vibes. Still an awesome city, but it’s a lot more expensive and a bit more cookie cutter corporate these days.

Sounds like my last trip to Brooklyn. Expensive and cookie cutter af.
It’s a national trend reflective of our societal values unfortunately.

Love the beauty & diversity, hate the cost of living. I'd live in the region if it were more affordable.

The only people who hate Seattle are the ones who think CHOP burned it all down.

I love Seattle, I hate Downtown Seattle (at least it's current incarnation).

Same, used to go with my folks a lot when I was a kid. I’m 60 now and took my grandkids, thought I was going to have to sell one to afford the spaceneedle, took them downtown and just smelled like piss everywhere. Super disappointing.

Geographically, architecturally beautiful. The open drug scene and mental health issues take a lot away from it.

I grew up somewhat nearby. I loved it in the 90s - I don’t even recognize it now.

I hate that so much of the new waterfront is beautiful new stuff, beautiful old stuff... and then there's just a Public Storage ugly box right there to ruin all our photos

Seattle is alright, but I think Portland was a bit more of my speed when I was younger.

Used to be cool before the hill became Cap hill. That was when I knew I had to leave.

Loved it in the 90’s and 2000’s. Seattle is a sad shell of its former self : (

In what way? I moved here a few years ago and love it. I hear that’s it’s changed a lot for the better. I’m interested in your experience.

Drugs and homelessness plague the city like never before. It used to feel safer and had a lot more character. Traffic wasn’t as bad. Many of the businesses and restaurants I grew up with have been replaced with condos and apartment buildings. The music scene used to be great, too.
I still think Seattle is a beautiful city, don’t get me wrong! It’s just a lot different than it was a couple decades ago..
Just my opinion, of course : )

I like to go in to Seattle for outings every so often, but living there would be hell in my opinion. I prefer its neighbors, Redmond and Issaquah. Those are much nicer areas.

Is it milder temps than north east

u/Opuntia_Fragilis 3d ago
In winter yes. This winter has been crazy mild. It has not dropped below 30 in most urban areas

I lived on capital hill in 2006 and it had so much soul. It’s a joke now.

Back in the mid-70s & 80s, downtown Seattle was a fun place with character. Now, not so much. I am not a fan of the current version of downtown. But I don't have to live there, so its not my problem.

Love Seattle. Favorite city in the US. Surrounded by water and natural beauty, liberal, non-religious. Only downside is it’s expensive af to live there, likely because it’s so nice and desirable.

Love the beautiful city and scenery.. hate the liberal lifestyle, the cost of living and the terrible traffic… much happier not being there. Great place to visit. Not live.

I worked in that block for past 10 years. It has been a steady decline for the past 8.

Summers are just the best in Seattle. Little humidity, few mosquitos, fewer Republicans.

Love the idea of it. I was able to travel there last year it was great idea lol. Idk how the city was before drugs, but i left after 15 min when I did the tourist thing of the market. Saw 6 guys shoot up dope on the street at 1pm. And just said this place sucks. And rolled out to enjoy nature outside town
The idea of seattle is amazing. The real world is another drug addicted dump

Cost of living and the weather (except for three months in the summer) is horribly depressing. Beautiful area further polluted by extreme politics and culture insanity.

How can an American hate a US city? Maybe its not your thing, but HATE part of your own country?

Hate it. Moved to Seattle 25 years ago, then out to Snohomish 7 years ago and haven’t looked back. I’ve only visited downtown twice in these last 7 years and both times I commented on what a crap hole it had become (and how much it smelled of piss and pot). Don’t miss it at all.

Used to be an exciting place to visit back in the day but has became a shit hole city being ran by DEI freaks disguised as qualified leaders. So sad to see it now being the asscrackerhead breeding center of the PNW!

Dirty, gross, expensive, wet, cold, stinky, gritty, unfriendly, murder-hobos everywhere.
Go anywhere else 20-30 miles and it’s amazing, sadly that will take you 2-3hrs thanks to traffic.

Love hate. It can be abusive and amazing all in the same day
