Living on Oahu Update:
I made a post months ago before moving here and now that we have been here a few months I just wanted to say how much I love this island! The culture is so rich and beautiful and I really love the sense of community here. So many kind & helpful Aunties and Uncles!! I feel super grateful to live here.

I agree with you. Hawaii is a fantastic place. As a transplant myself, I think the key is to blend in to Hawaii, not try to change it. Learning the history is a priority.

Seconded (or perhaps that's thirded). :)
You have to come here with a proper mindset and calibrated expectations as well. It sounds like OP did that.

I'm also military about to be sent to Hawaii and have been following since your previous post. I really appreciate your update on the experience and am looking forward to the move! Might post a similar one with questions more specific to my situation and how to embody aloha.
Thanks again for posting, it's been really helpful and I've read two books on Hawaiian history ever since your first post because users there recommended it!

Congrats! You should be receiving your Mahalo rewards card in the mail soon! Go to your nearest Hele and cash in those points on those musubis.
