The way people drive here?

Its like they have a hard on for making people abuse them. I drive at night and i see so many people hit parked cars, run red lights and drive over the median to u turn. Last night i got in the opposite lane of someone and slowed down to let them pass me and they were staring at me like they were victims, then they almost hit a deer.

Just now i stopped to let traffic pass so i can turn and an old dude try to pass me through the bike lane blind to who was crossing.

Calm down you dont have anywhere you need to be in medford

My favorite is when they stop at green lights and run red ones

9

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Lol ive seen it

22

u/Oregonized_Wizard 4d ago

I swear something’s changed, a few years back it was not like this. I remember when it seemed most other drivers knew who to drive and follow the basics rules. Now it’s 2-3 cars running the lights at the major intersections. Stop signs are now a soft yellow and school zones seem optional. Scary

6

u/Human_Ad_5768 3d ago

Yeah. I feel extra paranoid doing 20 in school zones now that people are riding my like it's the holidays (present times excluded) * ha no pun intended

4

u/pointlessneway 4d ago

I agree, it wasn't this bad

2

u/MrEngin33r 4d ago

As it gets worse it seems to feed itself. The more bad drivers there are the angrier it makes people which creates more bad drivers which makes people angrier and so on.

u/KingCharges 3d ago

Yes 2018-2020 lol 😮‍💨

Seemed to coincide with decriminalizing all the substances imho

Data from ODT shows a large rise in drug only fatalities starting in 2021.

6

u/HikeEatLift 4d ago

That and COVID - when police were directed to stop enforcing traffic violations. It's never really gone back to how it was before. People are used to driving however they want with no consequences.

7

u/Silver_Cartoonist_79 4d ago

It's usually the elderly from what I've seen. After 70 driving tests should be required yearly.

5

u/nonmangomouse 3d ago

Earlier. At 55, retake the test, then at 60, then every other year, etc. increasing the frequency as we age.

0

u/Silver_Cartoonist_79 8h ago

Ah no, not prior to retirement age. That would be ageist. I'm 52 and no where near needing that kind of monitoring. If I am too young to retire I'm too young to need to prove I'm still a safe driver. Which I am.

1

u/nonmangomouse 3h ago

You're being silly. Lots of people who physically cannot drive can work and support themselves perfectly well, and obviously, lots of people who can't drive safely are still out there driving anyway. You're taking a very impersonal thing way too personally. This is about keeping the road safe for everyone, as judged by impartial and appropriately trained professionals.

2

u/Silver_Cartoonist_79 4d ago

Also they've got photo cops everywhere so they can take blankets away from soaked and freezing homeless people

12

u/kayellie 4d ago

A guy with an "I don't have road rage, you're just an idiot" bumper sticker didn't stop when turning into incoming traffic, almost causing an accident. So... Yeah. People don't understand or care when they're in the wrong sometimes

1

u/NoStupidHor 3d ago

Everytime i see people with hella bumper stickers i always get the inclination they are paranoid about being judged and they are spastic. It triggers my fight or flight fr

2

u/kayellie 1d ago

I have one for that purpose. I usually go 5 over the speed limit, but I do NOT mess around with school zones. I go exactly 20mph, and I get tailgated so often I got a bumper sticker saying "if I'm going 20mph, it's a school zone. slow down!" I still get tailgated sometimes, but more often people will get right up on me, then back up some (my guess is after reading the bumper sticker, since it never happened before). I guess for me, is less that I'm worried they'll "judge me", but more for safety reasons. I don't want a cat or kid jumping into the road and getting into a fender bender great because someone is right up on me and can't brake in time.

1

u/NoStupidHor 1d ago

I do the samething speedwise

12

u/s0wel4 4d ago

literally today on my home from work at the hospital (so tired already!!!!) this truck was tailgating me on the left lane of i5 when i was stuck behind a semi, and had a semi right next to me!!! like why??? he had the audacity to glare at me once we got to the turning lanes at the exit too? wtf am i supposed to do about the semis?

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Its weird like people are so insulated here about acting out it ways that clearly are proof of their butthurt personalities

I came up on a 4-way stop sign intersection this evening. Corner of Hillcrest and Valley View. As I pull up, 2 cars (one going W on Hillcrest, the other going N on Valley View) are at the intersection fully stopped. I’m on a Harley. I come to a complete stop behind the BMW going W on Hillcrest. Nobody moves.

Finally I yell out “somebody figure out right of way for fuck sake!!” And mysteriously the BMW in front of me proceeds through the intersection followed by the other person followed by me.

Truly I believe people are driving around with no idea of right of way or general rules of the road. I’ve been actively teaching my 16 year old son how to drive. He’s shocked at how bad other drivers are and comments about it all the time.

Best you can do - keep your head on a swivel, check your blind spots, assume that the other driver will behave stupidly. Get a dash cam so when the inevitable occurs, you have proof.

9

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Lol, i need a good dash cam

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

I will have to figure out a way to get one. I uber drive here and the people can sometimes not keep their hands to themselves

3

u/sunnyB8 3d ago

The 4-way stops are a total crap shoot if anybody will stop or just blow through.

6

u/argoforced 4d ago

Hitting parked cars? You make it sound rather regular which is a bit concerning. The rest of what you said is sadly very typical lately..

7

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Its common especially on booze nights, ive had 3 uber riders tell me they have been hit while on skateboards and scooters and the person just kept driving

7

u/No_Doughnut_3315 4d ago

And where are the traffic cops who are supposed to police bad driving? Camped out on the I5 to catch some drivers going 90mph. There is far more egregiously dangerous behavior occurring in the city but as far as I can tell, the police are the lazy stereotypes you would expect.

3

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

They are dangerous as hell and they never seem to observe that the ground is frozen solid or its raining or anything else. Maybe they just hate their lives that much

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

I wish they would ive had people three feet from my bumper in the slow lane when we are the only 2 cars for miles. They are weird and neurotic about trying to start shit here. I can see why so many people get beat up and attacked

1

u/KingHakuho 3d ago

State police are responsible for I-5 (city cops are different org). I am told their days are made up of responding to one call-in on homeless/vagrants after another

2

u/No_Doughnut_3315 3d ago

Thanks for the info. Another good reason to find a permanent solution to the homeless issue. One way or another, they are a huge drain on resources, so maybe we should think about some proper sheltered accommodations, so the police can have a broader reach when it comes to keeping the peace.

-2

u/Silver_Cartoonist_79 4d ago

They've got all those traffic cameras so now they can harass the homeless 24/7

5

u/UsedOnlyTwice 4d ago

You may be interested to know that Medford has the same number of sworn officers as they did 25 years ago (108ish). That's from 63K people then to 84k people now, and twice that for metropolis area.

6

u/jessecbrown 4d ago

It's the driving while staring straight down at a cell phone that drives me crazy.

3

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

I saw someone do this while speeding in a school zone honking at me for turning

7

u/Silver_Cartoonist_79 4d ago

Since moving here in 2019 I've noticed people seem to enjoy driving 5-10 miles under the speed limit. Today a woman on South Columbus saw me and the car across the street waiting at our stop signs a car on Columbus waiting to turn left and she stopped at her corner and stared at us all like what the hell we're we doing, I gave her a look like are you dumb? And then she noticed she had no stop sign. 😂 I appreciate the caution but maybe check the signage on the road babe.

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

10 under is abysmal unless you are a granny white knuckleing it

2

u/MrEngin33r 4d ago

Are you tailgating people? That's a good way to get them to drive even slower around here.

1

u/Silver_Cartoonist_79 8h ago

I am not a tailgater as a rule. But if a person is going 25 on a 35 mph road I tend to get a bit closer hoping they'll realize they're under spreed. I typically use my cruise control around here since the speed limits change so irrationally and there's photocops all over. But, yes, even then, I have noticed people will "speed check" me for being too big in their rearview mirror which is always real cute. Lots of intellectual giants in southern Oregon.

3

u/One_Cauliflower5727 4d ago

Or when they drive in the opposite direction in a one way 🤯

1

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

The gps did me this way one time. Im more refering to people who use their cars to try to be neurotic about conflicts

1

u/One_Cauliflower5727 4d ago

That too, I’ve seen a lot of people drive in the bike lanes on the one way streets.

6

u/Suitable_South_144 4d ago

I used to think it was only Cali drivers who were driving like idiots, but I'm seeing a whole lotta Oregon license plates lately pulling ridiculous crap. I watched a line of cars turning left in front of oncoming traffic when they had the red light. Pedestrians take their lives in their hands trying to cross in the crosswalks with the walk light on. Drivers weaving around them, speeding.. sheesh folks!! And at one intersection those cameras flash more than a disco ball at studio 54!! Angry aggressive driving plus bad winter weather equals lots and lots of accidents.

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Yea..and its like they are more butthurt about you not reacting to their attempts to agitate you then they are about almost destroying their car, which would devastate their section 8 existence. I know it would mine

2

u/meepclip9 2d ago

Oh man! I do gig work day time, nite time, and people are not good drivers here. I've never seen so many inconsiderate, entitled drivers. Especially some of these people who drive big trucks. It blows my mind sometimes. Never ever ever ever will i buy a brand new car while living here. Fuct that!

1

u/NoStupidHor 2d ago

The worst part about it is that they act offended when you are not driving like a lunatic

2

u/blottymary 2d ago

This is sort of the opposite but equally annoying: Don’t get me started about 4 way stops. Everyone is either clueless about who is supposed to go next or they are being nice and letting people go which causes more of an issue 😬

It’s like that awkward situation when you’re walking down a hallway and almost walk into someone and then the other person lets you go and vice versa lol

1

u/NoStupidHor 2d ago

Yes i know what you mean

4

u/Global-Dimension-950 4d ago

new here. i was wondering about the drivers

2

u/KingCharges 3d ago

It's true. Head on a constant swivel. This is maybe a reason as to why I'm an even more of a homebody.

1

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Its pecular to say the least

3

u/Mysterious_Battle872 4d ago

It’s all the Californians taking over our state (this propaganda message is sponsored by Big Idaho)

7

u/nacho_averageloser 4d ago edited 4d ago

Whoa whoa whoaaa, the discrimination really came from left field this time.. what happened to the welcoming kind hearted open minded people of Medford I once knew? California and Washington are all neighbors why not act like such…. Btw way to wind me up guys

7

u/Mysterious_Battle872 4d ago

For those who couldn’t tell, this is satire

3

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Lol it absolutely isnt they dont drive like this in cali

18

u/ReapisKDeeple 4d ago

Here’s the West coast driving summarized: California- aggressive instant gratification drivers “ Oregon- thoughtless Sunday drivers. Washington- thoughtless aggressive instant gratification Sunday drivers.

3

u/Rainthistle 4d ago

I've never heard this put better. I may steal it, thanks.

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

I dont agree, i find people from here specifically unusually anal about trying to cause conflicts and problems when there isnt any. Just from what i experience people from california mind their own buisness people here are extremely frustrated and butthurt about other people just existing. Respectfully just my observation

I used to have a friend who got raped by her ex and he shot at her house and was stalking her, the guy got arrested and had both his arms broke in jail, then he was raped with broke arms. When he got out he was still stalking her.

I guess what im saying here is people are not exposed here to the reality of not having control over the spectrum of their emotions. Its weird most people try to rationalize being spastic and self destructive when they are just too possessive mentally.

I dont enjoy the people here(not all of them) and during every day interactions i feel like i will be forced to hurt them in self defense because they are spastic and emotional

1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

1

u/NoStupidHor 3d ago

Like the type of person you see behind you speeding so you change lanes so they can speed then they flip flop lanes back and fourth just to be behind you in a attempt to cause you stress. Thats just a bitch move and they deserve the reality of what they have coming to them

1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

1

u/NoStupidHor 3d ago

Nah if i called the cops everytime shit like that happened here it would be all i do. I do call them sometimes like i saw a guy punch his daughter in the face with a closed fist she was like 9. I called for that.

If you go out of your way to bother people you have it coming thats my point.

Like at the laundry matt on crater lake. That guy was saying sexual things to a 13 year old girl and her dad confronted him, then the nonce started screaming the N word at the dad and the dad shot him. Stuff like that is good that it happens

3

u/pointlessneway 4d ago

they don't drive that way in CA, but they absolutely do when they're up here and I can't understand why

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

The people ive seen driving like that here are locals who think they are proving a point by acting spastically. They shouldnt have a license if they are not calm enough to drive

2

u/gothrichard 4d ago

every cali license plate i see, a little piece of my soul dies (and they’re demonic fucking drivers with no regard for anyone but themselves) insane we’ve allowed them to infest our state like a bad case of bedbugs

1

u/Mission-Spring-2434 4d ago

getridofthecalifornians

-3

u/UnAvailableTrashley7 4d ago

I made a post about California's here, and got shit for it. 😂😂 good luck.

-2

u/Mission-Spring-2434 4d ago

Idec lol fuck them get em outta here

-2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Lol this city has long been infested with bed bugs i hate to break it to you

1

u/gothrichard 4d ago

yea i know. i grew up here. i get to watch it devolve in real time. assuming you’re a transplant?

1

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Ive lived here for 9 years but yes. Im telling you there is something about the people here they are just off in in a way in terms of understanding how they look emotionally

-1

u/gothrichard 4d ago

so you’re not from here. plain and simple. idk what to tell you. we don’t exist for you? idk what you’re even trying to say. all i know is ive lived here my whole life and it wasn’t like this. the drivers, the haze, the prices. i dont mind most transplants, confused by them sure, but not hateful. but californians are a different breed of horrible. growing up this close to the border i’ve known that my whole life. cool, you’ve been here 9 years. doesn’t change the fact it’s gotten shittier and there’s hell of a lot more cali license plates these days lol. not a complete direct correlation but close enough.

2

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

Seems like they dont have much pride in how they treat other people or act

1

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

No im saying people here like antagonize people then when they get what they have coming they act like victims. Not all people but plenty of them. When i lived in california i never experienced 5 elderly people being killed with hammers in 6 months, or a dude attacking his mom with a cavalry sword.

Just too obsessed and neurotic about making themselves out to be cowards. I can see why the majority of people i meet when im working talking shit about people here

2

u/Few-Material-1508 3d ago

I'm from Southern California and I drive professionally for a living. I'm an excellent driver. Stop the prejudice. It's a lack of being present and paying attention. I drive Jackson County morning and night. The sh#% I see 🙄

0

u/NoStupidHor 3d ago

Its crazy i try to turn my head cringe and bare it but people seem to think being patient makes you a bitch or something here

2

u/azelll 3d ago

Coming from another country where you have to get an actual physical and mental fitness test to renovate my drivers license, I am amazed at how easy it is to get a drivers license here... Could be part of the problem. Last time I didn't even had to do a basic eye test, I could be color blind for all they know. Plus I would assume there's a whole lot of phone binging going on this days, also pills, drugs and weird air cans sniffing... but I don't think it's only a Medford thing, there's a record high number of pedestrian getting run over, going up every year allover the country

1

u/KingHakuho 3d ago

A lot of revenue incentive to maximize drivers on the road, unfortunately

2

u/adaminoregon 3d ago

Medford has the worst drivers in america. Every time i go somewhere i see someone do something stupid. Run red lights? Check. Drive 10 miles below the limit in the left lane? Check. Be confused to the point of paralysis by a 4 way stop? Check. Drive down the wrong side of the road even with an island to block you? Check. Try to merge on to the highway going 35? Check. Forget where they are going and cross 2 lanes of traffic last second? Check. Block an intersection with too many cars? Check. It goes on and on.

1

u/Few-Material-1508 3d ago

Clearly you've never driven in Louisiana. They give anyone a license there 🙄

1

u/TedW 2d ago

You keep saying you slow down or stop to let people pass. What do you mean by that? Because if you're just slowing way down, or pulling over in strange places, then I could understand people being surprised by that.

I haven't noticed people staring at me or passing in bike lanes, so it makes me wonder if either OP is doing something strange, or maybe just unlucky / spending way more time on the road than I am.

edit: OP seems to be an Uber driver, so lots of late-night miles and drunk drivers might explain the problem.

1

u/NoStupidHor 2d ago

People will get on my ass and i will change lanes to avoid them and slow down so there is a gap between us and i dont have to be concerned about their spastic and neurotic driving. Alot of this stuff happens during they day too. Across distances that are less then 2 miles from my apartment. Where do you live? In the nice homes in the hills?

-2

u/AmazingPersimmon0 4d ago

Another Reddit argument. Ok, now OP. Learn how to deal with it or move somewhere, and try again. I do not know where that is.. Its probably everywhere and, on the border with nowhere.

Take a deep breath, two maybe and flow through Dredford, with a calm deposition, and you will survive. Smile a lot.

1

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

I deal with it but ill talk about it too if i want im sorry you dont understand how possessive you are acting, it seems like alot of people here dont understand that.

1

u/Sufficient-Rain1359 3d ago

Medford drivers are unhinged. I’d rather drive in a big city where they know how to drive in traffic.

0

u/DicknLick 3d ago

Ya'll just need to learn how to fucking drive fr

0

u/NoStupidHor 3d ago

Or just focus on driving and not jiggling other peoples nuts around

0

u/[deleted] 3d ago

1

u/NoStupidHor 3d ago

Hahaha they are, like what the fuck are you staring for? drive your car.

They will be trying to have a staring contest with you while they are turning through a crosswalk and almost hit someone.

-18

u/shaelii 4d ago

My favorite is the turning left on red arrow from a 2 way to a 1 way... Hellooo illegal. Too bad the cameras only seem to pick up speeding and don't do crap for running red lights.

15

u/Koolaidguy541 4d ago

You can turn left on red if it's onto a one way (e.g. from McAndrews onto Court St). That's perfectly legal

1

u/NoStupidHor 4d ago

I verified this with the police incase anyone knows

1

u/KingCharges 3d ago

You can until you can't. Usually, there is a sign. But, I've seen no turn on red even if turning onto one ways. Is wild out there, stay safe and protected. "Stay in your lane".
