Looking at Trump’s cabinet picks, I’d be shocked if they could manage something as simple as changing a lightbulb. Their ridiculous goals are hard enough for competent officials to pull off, so with Trump’s team, I doubt they’ll get much done.
Mass deportation? Not a chance. It’s an insanely complex and expensive task that demands proper planning and logistics, which require smart, capable people—something his administration isn’t known for. Honestly, he’s more likely to deport a bunch of Americans by mistake than achieve anything close to his promises.
The next administration will face a colossal task trying to clean up after Trump. That’s assuming there’s even a federal government left to fix after the circus he’s running. Add to that the infighting in the MAGAverse and Elon Musk being his usual self, and it’s not hard to imagine the whole thing collapsing into an unfixable mess.
I dunno, maybe trump knows he can't change a light bulb but knows the followers want it changed. So you get someone incompetent to blame when they can't do it, say it was blocked by the other team somehow, and yell about how you're the only one who can get it changed if only "they" stopped getting in the way
People are downvoting you because they're reading this as a "no u" response, but if you're left of center at all and care about real progressive policy passing then you know the Democrats absolutely pull this crap all the time to get out of actually governing and doing things they said they would
Or essentially he'll employ the "seagull method" of change: swoop in, knock things over, take massive dumps, and fly off, crowing, like he's accomplished something.
Unfortunately he and his cabal will move fast and break things, and do patently illegal and unlawful things, hurting people, even if ultimately they'll fail or can be counteracted. The damage for some of them, like family separations, The ultimate disposition of the Palestinian people, or providing this nation's secrets to hostile third party nations will be permanent.
It scarcely matters when the cruelty is the point, in and of itself. Whether or not it ultimately gets reversed or ruled unconstitutional, damage is done.
First and foremost, mass deportation is mass incarceration, and that can be privatized, earning some billionaires still more money. Then, having stripped certain industries of their workers, they can sell the incarcerees' services back to those industries for still more win, much like we do with our jails.
This is how you get mass slave labor, and it's scary AF.
Legal slave labor from migrants in camps and innocent people being put in jail is exactly what I am afraid of! I can see the Trump Administration turning the midwest into a giant goulog.
The issue with making light of that stuff is that not being able to accomplish their goals is not the same as them not causing harm in the process. Incompetent people can do a ton of damage beyond just organizational without guardrails to keep them contained.
Results don't matter. I've read up on the impending plans, and tRump intends to do a big show of rounding up and deporting, but for just that.... a show, a photo op. What happens after that, whether it's effective or not, doesn't matter, as long as he gets his photos. Not surprising in the least. Remember that time he tear-gassed american citizens so he could go get some pics in front of a church?
I agree that diaper-boy cares only about the photo op. That leaves the rest of the villains in his new cabinet and their motivations which includes ensuring a white, christian nation. IMO the last several censuses showing a trend of Eastern European decendants slowing losing ground as the catalyst for the hate driving these policies.
I take it you didn't hear Tom Homan's (new border Czar* ) comments to the affect of; "if we have to go into communities to find the bad guys, we'll take the good guys they are hanging around with at the same time".
* Why the heck do we use this term for US governmental positions?
Yeah, they can't deport US citizens which makes this all that much funnier but also that much more terrifying. If the orange turd tries to go through with this it is going to be complete chaos.
You're assuming that they're going to do the things they say they're going to do. Yes, mass deportation is hard, but basically every mass deportation campaign in history turns into a mass killing campaign in two to three business days and that's a lot easier.
It's not like he's even trying to hide it either. He flat out said any citizens who participated in Gaza demonstrations will be deported regardless of their legal status. People are deluding themselves if they think he's just playing around on the deportation stuff. If there's one thing he's been consistent about, it's his hatred towards minorities. It might not reach the scale he envisioned, but his administration will probably do a pretty good job on that issue. The wall and healthcare on the other hand...
To move even a fraction of the people he wants to, they will need camps to keep them while being processed. They will be to chicken shit to call them what they are, concentration camps
The mass deportations will really cripple the US economy, look at how the Latino boycott of Florida has harmed its construction and trucking there. But the most important bit is that the United States cannot leave a person stateless and cannot deny a US citizen entry back home. Doing either gives grounds for lawsuits that can damage the US by up to 5 to 6 figures per person.
They'll get mass deportations done. If you want it done right, sure, it will be a logistical nightmare. But you know their approach is going to be armed squads of 'militia' rounding up anyone who looks brown, tossing them in the back of rented uhauls, and dumping them in Mexico.
The top person doesn't need to be competent. Elon Musk taught us that. They'll just sit at the top, raking in money and being a mouthpiece. It's the nameless masses of cronies that the Federalist Society have hand-picked that worry me.
I feel like the next administration taking over is going to be like someone buying a house at auction from a bank that squatters lived in for 4 years. "Oh, for fuck's sake, where do we even start with this?"
And it's be a squabble among the renovators on what should be addressed first while some of them are secretly siphoning the rebuilding money on personal luxury items.
Lmao, its hard for you because you want to do the job right without as much collateral damage as possible. Its like finding a needle in a haystack by carefully shifting through the pile.
Trump and his cronies will simply set the whole barn on fire and then find the needle thats left from the ashes.
We asked a MAGA relative how they thought mass deportations would work. He said, ‘Send the cops to every Home Depot parking lot and round them up.’ JFC…
He does have smart people that he is nominating for important positions. The person that is going to be in charge of deportations should not be underestimated.
I feel this will be a stupid shitshow. Everything he promised requires rewriting a lot of the Constitution, billions of liquidity to burn through, and an absolute disinterest about global trade. The war between ideology & profit will be very fascinating to see and I also hope that our government still exists when this is all over & not in a deep Great Depression.
During the Great Depression J Edgar Hoover’s FBI deported over a million Latinos. Problem was, record keeping being what it was in the 1930’s, a lot of Americans who didn’t have the proper paperwork got deported too. Any time the economy has faced serious challenges the response has been to deport/blame immigrants. Then when the economy improves the workers are welcomed back since they’re needed.
He hasn’t even taken office yet and the wheels are falling off the mass deportations thing. Leon and his mates are protesting that there needs to be an exception for tech workers. How long will it be before exceptions are sought by every other employer that relies on immigrants. It is going to be a massive shit show.
Just an FYI, the Nazis started out wanting mass deportations too. They found out it was insanely complex and expensive so they decided it was just easier to murder everyone instead ...
