No. No it absolutely will not. Trump and Criminal Co. don't give two shits about abandoning supporters. They are moving into a position of absolute power and the ability to protest or push back is going to disappear faster than a cheeseburger under Trump's nose. The military will be weaponized against citizens and local police are already huge supporters of Trump's agenda. There will be NO ability to pushback and people are literally going to roll over and allow all of this to wash over the country. We've elected the first American Authoritarian regime and its going to roll out very quickly. Nothing is going to be "glorious".

-5
u/arararanara 1d ago
A lot of people in this subreddit want to see minorities deported because some of us, not even a majority, voted for Trump.
2
u/Firemorfox 16h ago
I specifically want minorities that voted for Trump, to be deported. I do not want minorities that did NOT vote for Trump, deported.
As far as I can tell, anybody who voted against their own interests is going to enable US politics worsening over the next 10 years of Republicans radicalizing further, and I'd like that to stop before it's too late. Having Republicans cannibalize their own voter base is one way.
Same reason I'm very happy Trump-voting veterans and Trump-voting firefighters suffer from Trump's policies on healthcare, even if I feel sad that non-Trump-voting vets/firefighters will also suffer. You're literally on r/LeopardsAteMyFace , why are you surprised people enjoy schadenfreude here?
2
u/arararanara 14h ago edited 14h ago
You can’t deport minorities who voted for Trump, you have to be a citizen to vote and citizens cannot be deported. And cheering denaturalization affects all of us, not just the ones who voted for Trump
I am not surprised, I mostly hate read this subreddit these days because of how many people here don’t give a damn about collateral damage done to vulnerable people just because MAGAs will get owned. Also for the regular 2 minute hate directed at China and Chinese people that is honestly indistinguishable from MAGA. It’s a reminder that there are plenty of reactionaries and nationalists that vote blue.

I don't get it, isn't expanding legal immigration options a good thing? I feel your comment but towards musk lol
31
u/YakWish 1d ago
Legal immigration is a good thing when the immigrants do jobs Americans don't want to do. When immigrants are brought in to do jobs that Americans want and are qualified to do, our pay drops.
Musk is basically trying to decrease the financial stability of young, educated liberal voters so that they can't put as much energy into opposing him.
5
u/Elite_Prometheus 1d ago
Don't go too far and start making far right talking points about immigration. Overall, immigration raises the pay of US workers. Sure, there's more labor, but there's also more demand for goods and services. There's a reason people don't recoil in horror when learning that their country's population is increasing and bemoan how this will hurt their future wages. If more people = more competition for jobs = lower pay, then it shouldn't matter whether those people are born here or immigrated here. But obviously that isn't the whole story.
The reason Musk pulled a 180 and is now gung ho about immigration is the same reason most business leaders are leery about the flat 20% tariff: it's an objectively shitty economic policy for the US. Restricting immigration makes more sense for smaller, undeveloped countries. Their economies are small a low number of migrants can cause seismic shifts in the labor pool, while they lack the economic capability to scale up their industry to properly take advantage. But the US is not a small country with a small economy, we are basically the world economy with one of the highest GDP per capita. It would take hundreds of millions of immigrants per year to start outpacing our economy's ability to expand and utilize their labor.
0
u/YakWish 1d ago
I don’t think you read Elon’s post or my comment very carefully. The situation you described is completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand.
0
u/Elite_Prometheus 6h ago
Are you suggesting that there's some magical force that activates when an immigrant has an education that suddenly makes their entry in the country cause a decrease in wages, as opposed to when the immigrant is uneducated?
0
u/YakWish 6h ago
No, I never said anything like that
0
u/Elite_Prometheus 6h ago
"When immigrants are brought in to do jobs that Americans want and are qualified to do, our pay drops."
Then what did you mean by this, if you weren't trying to say immigration lowers wages?
0
u/YakWish 5h ago
I said that Elon's immigration plan will lower some people's wages. You said that immigration lowers wages. Do you understand how those are two different things or do I need to explain more?
0
u/Elite_Prometheus 4h ago
So what you said was completely uninteresting and means basically nothing, gotcha 👍
4
u/arararanara 1d ago
I don’t believe that people are inherently more deserving of jobs or pay just because of an accident of where they were born.

u/tommytwolegs 1d ago
I don't believe there are jobs "Americans don't want to do." There are jobs Americans don't want to do for the offered price, I'm not sure why we favor certain sectors over others to subsidize with immigrants, bring them in everywhere or not at all but be consistent about it
4
u/whiskeynwaitresses 1d ago
I see what you’re trying to get at, but OPs point is (for example) U.S. born and educated software engineer makes ~$150k a year to start (that’s super back of the napkin math, there’s a ton of variables).
If we speed up legal immigration from say India, which produces TONS of qualified software engineers it floods a the market. Economics 101 would suggest that then, the U.S. persons earning power drops because Google (or whoever) can bring someone into the country to do the job for potentially less.
Now, as we’ve seen throughout history, typically these things aren’t a zero sum game and there’s a ton of nuance. That said, there’s something to your “pick a lane U.S.” line of thinking
-1
u/bubblethink 23h ago
What sort of backwards ass thinking is this ? Nobody wants to do jobs that others don't want to do. Legal immigrants aren't coming to America to do your chores. People work on things that interest them, and America benefits by getting the best talent from all over the world.
7
u/Luna_trick 22h ago
There's an important caveat musk isn't mentioning, and that's that he wants to defund American schools and the education system in general as the right relies on having an uneducated populace to vote for them.
This however creates a problem for a tech ceo like musk who needs educated workers to make him money. The best way for him to get his oligarchy and eat it too, is to defund education, and import the select people he needs.
9
u/bostonlilypad 1d ago
He’s making you think he wants to just hire the best and brightest for “legal immigration”. What he really means is he wants to flood the already flooded tech market with cheap, exploitable h1b visa workers to line billionaires and shareholders pockets.
There’s also been issues with h1b visas
0
u/arararanara 1d ago
Which is why H1Bs should be reformed to make H1Bs less vulnerable to exploitation, while also increasing the number of them because right now getting one is a total crapshoot

Musk owns Trump. Trump can't throw Leon under the bus because Leon has way more power money and influence with the people who matter.

I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Elon and DOGE on something. Yes. We need people. And we were built on immigration.
39
u/Bovronius 1d ago
Elons goal though is to literally replace US workers with cheaper immigrant labor.
6
u/seldom_seen8814 1d ago
I still think we need to reform the immigration system and keep attracting talent.
28
u/Cendax 1d ago
Yeah, but there's a difference between attracting talent and paying them what you would pay the equivalent American worker versus paying them not much above minimum wage.
Elon's just after cheap, and I'm certain the minute they asked for something like "decent working conditions" and "living wages," their asses are are getting shipped back.
6
u/LivingIndependence 1d ago
about 30 years ago, immigrant ELON would have been deported, as he is an obvious threat to our national security, but here we are.
23
u/Accidental-Hyzer 1d ago
The problem isn’t a lack of talent. We have plenty of talented Americans that can fill any role.
The problem is paying those talented workers fair wages and giving them appropriate benefits. Elon and Vivek want to pay some H1-B slave wages and make them work 70 hour weeks. Fuck ‘em.
-2
u/Artistic-Tax2179 1d ago
So you don’t want high skilled legal immigration at all?
1
u/Accidental-Hyzer 20h ago edited 19h ago
IMO H1B is being taken advantage of by these billionaire tech CEOs to line their own pockets and it has nothing to do with a lack of talent. If anything, we should be reducing H1B, not increasing it. Elon and Vivek’s push for it is so obviously in their own self interest. So like I said, fuck ‘em.
1
u/Artistic-Tax2179 6h ago
so you think we should turn down people who have a masters or a phd from an american school instead give the job to someone american who doesn't have those degrees?
1
u/Accidental-Hyzer 6h ago
So you don’t think there are any Americans who also have those degrees? That the choice is an H1B with a PhD or Masters or an American without a degree? That’s quite the straw man argument that you set up.
I think the H1B program has been taken advantage of for too long by the wealthy in the tech industry. And they made their anti-immigration bed, so they can sleep in it.
1
u/Artistic-Tax2179 6h ago edited 5h ago
Go look at the demographics of STEM PhD enrollments of the T100.
Here's the source:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2021/08/19/international-students-remain-a-primary-source-of-us-tech-talent/still think its a strawman?
Also lets be honest here, not a ton of Americans are lining up to get a doctorate in STEM. They are barely enrolling in the undergrad STEM degrees. But I do agree with your hypothesis.
The problem in the H1B program isn't with the grads of American schools, its the Indian consultancy firms like WITCH, that overwhelmingly underpay and undercut American wages and supply subpar workers. That needs to be cracked down upon quickly.
10
u/killians1978 1d ago
You agree but in all the wrong ways. A robust immigration system as a way of attracting workers and reversing brain drain is important. Elon wants to cherry pick who is allowed in based on their perceived value, and I'm assuming you would not.
8
u/a_minty_fart 1d ago
