Why does the Leatherman Arc have a separate can opener on bottle opener when all the other models just have one that does both?

It seems like a waste of a tool spot. Can someone explain to me? I have a wave and it has a single tool that does both. Why would you want to waste a tool slot for something when you have an option that can open bottles and cans?

Because separated tools are better at their respective task and a proper multitool requires some kind of prying tool.

They had the choice to put the "claw" on one side and a prybar on the other or to combine the prybar with a bottle opener and put a real and better can opener on the other side. Overall this is a better desing. Or so I think, I'm not an engineer at leatherman.

I do prefer the claw as it's more versatile though.

The pry bar could easily have been on the file though. Although I guess it would probably be too long and risk bending huh?

It just seems like a waste of a tool slot since I mean come on let's be real how many of us are actually opening up cans with a can opener?

Bottles? All day long but actual cans It's probably the least used tool of all Leatherman tools

Especially since people who can't probably aren't using the ARC anyway

Files are made too brittle to be prybars though.

In Canada there are lots of products without pull rings. I use a multitool can opener a few times a year. More as a small pryong implement as well.

Files are hardened more than other tools, making them the worst thing for prying.

The ARC/free Bottle opener does a much better job than the old talon style.

I work in Asia where most of the cans don't have the decidedly American convenience of a pull tab, so I make good use of the can opener.

Don't you have an actual can opener?

Are you opening up these cans in the forest or your kitchen?

My kitchen is the size of a walk-in closet, so I keep the bare minimum.

Me too

A real can opener doesn't take up any space at all

Any time I'm drinking a can of something, I use the can opener to add a vent, for smoother drinking.

I don’t understand why any multi tool has a bottle opener. Put me naked in a rubber room and I could open a bottle of beer no tool needed
