Fun fact: The bridge passes through three Florida counties: Pinellas, Hillsborough (for the channel through the middle), and Manatee. Leadership from all 3 counties come together to suggest the colors to be displayed on the bridge.
This caused a bit of a stir when rainbow colors weren't displayed this past June. Instead, red-white-blue was chosen leading up to US Independence Day on July 4, 2024.
