ID this Corymbia pls πŸ™πŸ» 🌻 ID This Plant

My neighbour’s front yard in Geelong. It’s got a red flower & smooth peeling bark. Bout 3m tall. Lorikeets & Wattle birds SMASHING it!! πŸ₯°

Looks like a WA red-flowering gum. We are so imaginative with names here.

Makes me sad to think there was/ is likely an indigenous name, same goes for all of the native plants, but we don't use them.

There are Indigenous names for it e.g. Yorgum & Boorn. And that's part of the issue - oftentimes there are many different names (or no names at all, despite what you've said), making it hard for one to stick.

But names reflect their modern cultural context too - red flowering gum is easier for recognition of its ornamental nature, meanwhile other trees like 'Jarrah' or 'Marri' retain their Indigenous name.
