Just wanted to share my genuine frustration with the 1000 rope jumps challenge FF IX

I don't understand how you guys do it.
1000 is so many.
Congrats

The only way to complete this mini-game without help from a auto-presser or script or something (the moogle even makes a comment when you’re getting close that you must be using a turbo controller) is if you’re very, extremely, highly autistic.

u/ShadowBass989 12h ago
I get the comment and it was funny. But it’s all really just down to timing and the best way to help honestly is to listen. I did it a while back. Took me a while but I got to like 1300ish (my wife wouldn’t tell me if I passed it and let me keep going. So rude).

With a script

u/Blasteth 12h ago
I mean, if you're gonna through the trouble of installing a script, just unlock the achievement with SAM at that point.
•
u/death556 11h ago
What is SAM?
And I got it on PlayStation with a script. I think getting that shit set up and working with 0 exp made the achievement worth it in its own right

I don’t think I’ve tried very seriously to do that since I got the game for the Switch. I know it means I can’t 100% it, but I’m cool with that. I prefer the Chocograph mini game
•
u/Max_leo5 11h ago
You can't 100% it anyway since that'll require you to speedrun the game to get a specific sword, and that means ignoring side content and mini games, and they will become missables.
•
u/mikeysce 11h ago
You can get all the missable content and still get the Excalibur II. There’s been a guide on Gamefaqs for like 20 years. It’s way easier now with the No-Encounter and speed up toggles (the player moves faster and the game clock continues at the normal speed even during Choco Hot & Cold).
•
u/Max_leo5 11h ago
Interesting. I thought the clock kept going faster when you have speed up on, I can't imagine how much reloading you have to do with the game to achieve that, and you have to perfectly finish everything in a specific amount of time or reload.
•
u/Lunavixen15 6h ago
Nope, that's the awesome part :D
I've only ever done it without speedups once (on PAL, which makes it worse as you have even less time). Never again.
•
u/Max_leo5 6h ago
Do it again because it's the awesome part -^
I love the game, but I really liked the idea of being unable to 100% it because that helps with the addiction of "I want everything even if I don't use it" in my opinion but this kinda made me upset a bit, oh well tho. I'm not too crazy about 100%ing the game. I'll live with my 97% happily. Until I get the 1k jump, then it'll be my 98%.
•
u/Lunavixen15 6h ago
Excalibur II without speedups is a nightmare I will never do again, especially on PS1 as it's PAL
•
u/Max_leo5 6h ago
Oh, I meant do it with the speed ups, not without them. I should've clarified. Even with them, honestly, it's a pain. I didn't enjoy stealing from bosses part the most it took so long with me not attacking, so they don't die and just spamming steal with a 0.1% of success. What a thief. But seriously, have fun if you go for that and do it legitimately. I know people who just used outside cheats for it.
•
u/Lunavixen15 6h ago
I used speed ups for grinding and stuff like magic drawing in FF8, it removes the tedium
•
u/Max_leo5 5h ago
Yeah, I did the same with the 10k fights for FF9 trophy. And the speedrun. I also find them funny when they run quickly.

yeah it breaks hot and cold so hard lol i don’t think i had a single game where i didn’t max out all 8 treasures and get the time bonuses. i had the points for the robe of lords by air garden without grinding other than for getting the chocographs themselves.
•
u/Frederyk_Strife4217 7h ago
or just wait 99 hours
•
u/the-rood-inverse 6h ago
Yes wasn’t that the trick just keep it super slow
•
u/Frederyk_Strife4217 5h ago
Excalibur 2 just goes off the in-game timer, so when it rolls over it thinks it's less

u/Organic_Shopping7759 13h ago
I gave up after struggling to get 5 in my playthrough on PS1. This is just a cruel trophy.

u/Mooncubus 12h ago
I started playing FFIX for the first time a couple months ago. I got to the jump rope as Vivi and then proceeded to spend like two hours straight trying to get it. Started listening to the workout music from ff7 remake to try and get myself pumped. I tried everything but never made it past like 300ish.
My dreams of 100%ing all the games was shattered that day.
•
u/KnightSaziel 9h ago
This single trophy is why I am only going to plat certain games instead of trying for the whole series lol
•
u/PsychoBugler 7h ago
I refuse to get 100% completion in every game now. It's just not worth it to me.
14
u/PrometheusAborted 13h ago
That’s “uninstall the game and play something else” material.
Then again, you must be a glutton for punishment to even consider attempting this.
•
u/Lunavixen15 6h ago
Between this stupid trophy and the kill 10000 enemies es one, FF9 is not getting platinumed without help

u/FF7_Expert 12h ago
I have never really taken this minigame seriously. I always grab the first few reward cards and call it a day. Once I grinded it until I got more than 100, which is where they start messing with the timing on you. It's insane. I don't think I have ever been bothered to get over ~120.
A lot of folks like to meme about the chocobo race to get the Sun Sigil in FFX, but that is simple compared to jump-rope

u/Regular_Barber_6147 12h ago
Could this challenge be compared to the lightning dodge challenge in FF10?
16
u/fredthrowaway8 12h ago
Oh it’s so much worse. My 36 year old reflexes can hit the lightning, not so much the jump rope. I’ve been trying to master this shit on and off for years and I’ve just resigned to the fact that I’ll never plat one of my favorite games in the series

u/Solitaire_XIV 12h ago
Not even remotely comparable. 1k Jump Rope would be like 10k lightning without the crater or No Encounters.

•
u/Gronodonthegreat 10h ago
Way way worse. I got lightning on my second try. This is a million times more difficult

•
u/smellslikekimchi 9h ago
My bro did it when we were kids. He was so determined and it took him like 4 or 5 hours. I ended up falling asleep watching him and he woke me up when he finally did it. I think he got up to like 1200 or something and only stopped because there were no prizes left. I could never get past 70ish.

u/GuntiusPrime 12h ago
I haven't even started going for the platinum on 9 yet because of this trophy... 10 for the lightning
•
u/dr_holic13 5h ago
I used to think people were insane for grinding platinum trophies. Who has an extra 100 hours to practice, play, repeat, and grind, all for those last few milestones before getting platinum?
Then I tried to platinum a game with trophies that WASN'T an HD re-release of a classic JRPG.
Turns out most games don't have stupid challenges that total up to triple digit hours to complete.

Still over here stuck on the lightning dodging, can’t even imagine when I attempt this. The crater trick helps, just haven’t sat down to grind it out. Either way, I salute your achievement
•
u/Nail_Biterr 11h ago
Wait. It's at that part? I thought it was in the beginning with Vivi
•
u/vcvemmefalardesexo 10h ago
I think you can play jump rope anytime in the game, after Alexandria is destroyed the girls just move from the plaza to the bell tower
•
•
u/bahnmipanda 11h ago
Genuinely curious when people get this and finish the game, some time down the road they feel like playing a new game… do they try to get this again? I feel like I wouldn’t even want to look at FF9 for the next 5-10yrs
•
u/Gronodonthegreat 10h ago
I 100% cheated this achievement, my life isn’t a toy for Square Enix’s sick games
•
u/GreasyMcNasty 9h ago
It's something I could have done 20 years ago when I was younger and calmer. I beat the lightning bolt challenge with ease from FFX.
However, years later, I'm dealing with major brain glitches from drug and alcohol abuse mixed with PTSD. I can't do stuff like that anymore.
•
u/jamiedix0n :Minwu-test: 9h ago
If i were to ever try platinum ffix id use that script trick. Naturally I can't even get past like 10
•
•
u/small-black-cat-290 8h ago
I honestly don't understand what they were thinking when they made this trophy a thing. Whoever's idea this was, I wish you a lifetime of stepping on legos and Barbie shoes.
•
u/Aselleus 7h ago
I've played ff9 since it's release, and it was a miracle i got past 100 lol Maybe one day...
•
u/rydamusprime17 7h ago
It's a good thing i don't care about trophies... one day I will do 100 jumps in Super Mario RPG though... maybe

Still not as cruel as any mini game (mainly Chocobo racing) from FFX.
•
u/Mercurius94 7h ago
Blitzball was NOT cruel.
Honestly I can't stand some of the shit you have to do to get Celestial Weapons but this is far worse

u/Onion-Knight- 13h ago
The hardest boss in all of FF.
