It's far more likely to be a little wall, which is still a pretty common way of making the borders on your property, if you're tenuously wealthy. At least it is where I live.

It's the way the water stains(?) on the wall resemble reflections of tree trunks in water.

Edit: it took me a little while to see it as not-water but now I can't see it as water any more. Brains are funny.

Its a fence or wall with a sloped top. The straight edges of the "lake" are just too straight when you think about it
