This is a symptom of severe poverty and a failure at a base level. A lot of us will likely be in tents ourselves. Welcome to the future

Childhood trauma , anxiety depression . I think we need better mental care. Mental illness is a serious issue in our times

Then the root isn't a drug problem, its a structural failing to take care of our people which causes hurt people to hurt people and themselves.

The drugs are there for them though when all other systems fail, it is an extremely resourceful coping skill for someone who was abandoned or extremely abused (not arguing, just adding to your point)

Right. Its an attempt to fill a need they have, but have no way to get it met.

The root is capitalism and poverty. Drug issues are exasperated by poverty
