In search of old sushi

Howdy folks- I lived in Eugene around 2013-2018 and there was this fantastic, tiny sushi spot in the Whit. Can’t remember what it was called but it only sat like 20 people, always needed a reservation, no menu, chef just hooked up the freshness.

Anyway, we heard he closed down to open a larger space and now we are back in town. Anyone know if that newer place exists and what it’s called?

Thanks!!

I miss Mame so much. I don't even know what the deal with Akira is.

Taro (former owner of mamé) owns Akira and while it’s good, it’s not the same experience as Mame was and Taro’s impact is less as he had a kid and works much less. If you go I’d recommend sitting upstairs in the bar.

Bummer! I’ve been chasing that Dragon for years! Mame was easily the best sushi experience I ever had. Glad to hear the chef is doing well but I was hoping to catch that sweet magic one more time

Totally understand! We were lucky to have that experience! Tiger Mama in the Whit is great food, really nice people and a nice environment. If you’re looking for somewhere to go while you’re here, I recommend it. Enjoy your time here!

Oh come on, you don't want to play gastric russian roulette with clearance sushi in a convenience store refridgerator? Where's your sense of adventure? ;-)

Haha, no. My 40-something arse is a good no thank you!! The little things we don’t know growing up, until we know…. lol

As a bonus you could win a prize: get brain worms and learn to play the holophonor or maybe lead a govt health agency!

I thought the exact same thing. I used to work for a frozen dumpling company. We routinely sold expired dumplings to pig farmers.

Akira is ALSO closed down at the moment but supposedly will reopen later this month with changes. Follow their Instagram for updates.

Old sushi? Are we not doing "phrasing"?

You might be thinking of Mame? Last I heard Taro shut it down but I can double check with some old chefs that I know that used to work there. It's been permanently closed for a bit now.
