Really good sandwiches in town that aren't burgers? Something to do
.

u/LatinoHeatps4 May 23 '24
Downtown Eugene the market next to the Eugene bus station I think it’s called the Kiva. They sell really good fresh sandwiches. None of that premade subways sandwich.
30
u/lextheowlf May 24 '24
Oh yeah, the Kiva FOR SURE sells some bomb ass sandwiches. AAAAAAAAAAAND they accept EBT payments for said sandwiches if anyone's wondering.

excuse me but is this you insinuating that poor people are dumb? or are you just insinuating that I'm dumb?
Either way, maybe try getting kicked out of your parent's basement :)

Subway is premade now? It's been a while since I've been there but I thought they make it right in front of you.
12
u/DareWise9174 May 24 '24
No I think they mean those pre-made submarine sandwiches like what you buy it the grocery store. Not Subway subs. Those are still made in front of you although they now have a big metal cover blocking your view of the meat and cheeses. So that's sus.

u/Gini555 May 24 '24
Also, I have noticed recently, they put a lot less of the veggies on it when you ask for it. I asked for tomatoes and spinach and they put three spinach leaves and two slices of tomato on a 6 inch sandwich. I had to ask him to stop and put more on.
2
u/LeadBravo May 24 '24
I had a turkey bacon there one time and asked for spinach. The kid told me no, that's for spinach salad. I repeated that I WANTED SPINACH on my sandwich and he said no, it's for spinach salad. I think he got the idea from the death glare I gave him and he put a PILE of spinach on there for me. Dipstick.

u/DopeShitBlaster May 23 '24
Longs Meat Market. Super high quality ingredients.
9
u/Upset_Form_5258 May 23 '24
I’ve never had their sandwiches but am always curious how they are when I went by there to get meat. This is my sign to finally get a sammie next time I stop by

u/laffnlemming May 24 '24
Do they still touch your mean purchases with bare hands and then handle your credit card and hand it back to you.
Every time that I have purchased $100 worth of meat, they've done that. I don't like it. So, I haven't been there for while.
I do not like Benedetti's set up either. The main mean case has the West sun hit it. I don't care how good the Hot Italian Sausage is if they think that is ok.
2
u/DopeShitBlaster May 24 '24
I got the spicy Italian sandwich and it was amazing, best one in town.
1
u/laffnlemming May 24 '24
I've purchases sausages and other stuff there too and it has been good. I just do not like that window that the night sun hits.
I'm glad that they made it though the issues they had. Lease renewal or something.

u/pipesd May 23 '24
Tradewinds Cafe consistently has my favorite sandwiches in town.
3
u/ThatOneThingYouLove May 24 '24
Tradewinds and Capella market are my favorite sandwich spots in town. Tradewinds’ dp gyro is massive and so good

u/rubyfire777 May 23 '24
Bon Mi is to die for
4
u/BishSalad May 24 '24
Yep. Get the red hot chicken or pork if you like things a little spicy. So good.

u/longbrownandhairy May 24 '24
Basic b*tch Bon Mi that is…shitty bread purchased from Safeway. That meat in the wells gets recycled day after day and they lack a good deal of general hygiene in the BOH. Think I’m BSing? Ask any of the many people who have cooked there in the past. The pho is sadly delicious but my friend never saw so many roaches in a kitchen before working there!

Sequential! Plus you get a free drink when you fill your gas tank
9
u/GoodAsUsual May 23 '24
As a vegan, I approve this message. They have an amazing tempeh BLT sandwich, and even have good gluten free bread options. This is my go to anytime I need to fill up or hop on the freeway.
14
u/anotherdisciple May 23 '24
Check out Great Harvest Bread on Willamette, quality sandwiches there.
Source: I used to work there.
4
u/Ausiwandilaz May 23 '24
Second, I go there frequently for the Chimichurri Roast Beef and spicy Chai tea. The bread is awesome too
2
u/BreakfastShart May 23 '24
3rd. Can confirm. Food is always on point. And the owner I've met is super chill.
4
u/YetiSquish May 24 '24
I sure wish we had a bakery in north Eugene. South gets all of them for some unknown reason
2
1
u/jbkjam May 24 '24
I miss their bacon sandwiches though. Still good but the BLT and the turkey bacon were our favorites. I think covid killed it but maybe it was just around that time.
-1
u/laffnlemming May 24 '24
Great Harvest Bread
This outfit's bread has always given me a gut ache. I think that they do not cook the gluten enough.
12
u/Loaatao May 23 '24
The tempeh Reuben from Capella’s deli is my favorite sandwich in town. My favorite sandwich soup combo is the Barry’s veggie with cream cheese sandwich dipped in Hungarian mushroom soup.

u/longbrownandhairy May 24 '24
Don’t support either of those spots…no idea how they’ve lasted this long abusing the crap out of their employees.
14
u/Heftydog1 May 24 '24
I am very sad that no one has mentioned Cheese Bliss. Dove and James will hook you up fat.

u/LegionnaireI May 23 '24
Scribbles is the best sandwich in town, in my humble opinion.
3
u/uhgletmepost May 23 '24
Looked them up, for their price points I'd hope so, 18 bucks for a French dip?
5
u/Ent_Trip_Newer May 23 '24
They are good, but it cost my family of 4, $72 the last time I got carry out. It's a bit much for regular visits.
4
u/PorcupineMeatball May 24 '24
They’re huge! I always get 3 meals out of one sandwich. Their Philly is my favorite in town.

The new place that took Tap & Growler’s spot has good sandwiches. Silver Falls Brewery.
2
u/laffnlemming May 24 '24
Interesting. I pumped hundreds of dollars into Tap & Growler back pre 2020.
8
u/Kooky-Necessary-4444 May 24 '24
Capellas, berry's, Longs, jiffy (but also rip old jiffy) lauralwood pub has a decent roob. Kiva looks good but Idk.

This town has a seriously unfortunate lack of italian sub shops and Jewish deli's.
Both would make a killing. By my patronage alone
1
u/maplesaptap May 24 '24
Well then you gotta try Barry’s
1
May 24 '24
I have. Its... fine.
I've also eaten at proper Jewish delis and know exactly what I'm missing
Their rueben doesn't even have corned beef ffs
7
u/GarmBlack May 23 '24
Benedetties (Sp?) Over off Centennial in Springfield.
3
u/uhgletmepost May 23 '24
Gosh I haven't been that way in a decade back when they had value village and I would hunt for 70 percent off deals.
Thought they closed the restaurant side and went full butcher?
3
u/GarmBlack May 23 '24
They still sell sandwiches in shop, just no seating area. Jusy got their steak and cheese a couple days ago and it was bomb as hell.
1
u/uhgletmepost May 23 '24
Do you recall if they sell kosher meats still by chance?
1
u/GarmBlack May 23 '24
Sadly not sure, but they're super chill, I'm sure they'd welcome the question.
-1
u/laffnlemming May 24 '24
No.
Is the meat case still hit by the afternoon sun?
It might make that meat nice and tender for tomorrow or the next day's sandwiches.
5
u/OregonResident May 23 '24
Barry’s and if you’re desperate the overpriced sandwiches at Provisions at 5th St or on Hilyard.

4
u/scootersgod May 24 '24
Bounty food cart behind Play Eugene!
2
u/KillaPicnic May 24 '24
I hear they have a new lunch special. Half a sandwich and a side and it is reasonably priced. I need to go back
6
u/Alley-IX May 24 '24
Cheba is great. I love their greek chicken sandwich. Barrys cafe also makes their own bread and good sandwiches. I usually get their 1/2 pastrami with a cup of their creamy tomato soup
4
u/Boring-Pea4738 May 24 '24
Capella market on willamette makes a mean sandwich they have a build your own or you can pick from some classic sandwich options all made to order.

5
u/Sorandy13 May 24 '24
Benedettis Meat Market and Deli. Hands down the best sandwiches in this area. In Springfield at Centennial Plaza.

Dank Beef at Kesey Square for your Italian Beef sandwich needs! Get It on the pretzel roll. It's so delicious and it's a fairly new business who could use some local love.

Red barn deli makes a great tempeh Rueben
1
u/pirawalla22 May 24 '24
Red Barn is similar to Kiva. The sandwiches are really good and people don't always immediately think to go there.

Bon mi place downtown
3

I went here one and had a very poor Bon mi sandwich. They lost me that day.

If you're ever heading south, Dietz Deli just opened in Cottage Grove a few weeks ago. I've only tried one of their panini's so far, but everything else looks good and they're getting rave reviews.

Yardy Cart at ColdFire. So good.
Chef Isaiah Martinez is doing sandwiches at his cart now that he’s got Yardy Rum Bar going (in The Vintage’s old spot).

Yak blocked me. lol.
This was my last message to that u/, but I couldn't post it. It was nice.
It said:
Oh, you think that.
Donald Trump must not be reelected. That is almost all that I care about.
Let's name sandwich after him. I will design it and call it the Dog Shit Sandwich. Stay tuned and I might post a picture somewhere.
-23
u/laffnlemming May 23 '24
I have not been to a restaurant in town since 2020, because I do not trust any to sit down and eat there.
A Reuben is a good sandwich, but that deli brewpub in The Whitaker went Shitaker way before COVID happened. Bad service. Bad food. Beer? Was good, but failed.
10
u/Duke0fMilan May 23 '24
What do you mean by “I do not trust any to sit down and eat there”?
-11
u/laffnlemming May 23 '24
So, restaurants here will never ever never ever have my ~$300+ a week ever never again.
They blew it, like a COVID clogged up nose.
Edit: It could have been closer to $500 / week sometimes. I liked to eat Thai and Chinese takeout.
9
u/anotherdisciple May 23 '24
No one gives a hoot where you spend your money. If it’s for health reasons, great, that’s for you. But believe it or not people before Covid did the same things and you didn’t have a problem with it. Get a grip dude.
-4
u/laffnlemming May 24 '24
See. this is the attitude that keeps my fun money from going to local restaurant folks.
-14
u/laffnlemming May 23 '24
I will not trust any restaurant to go sit inside and eat there and be subjected to other people's lack of concern, lack of hand washing, and disregard to sniffle their snotty noses and sneeze near me. I do not want whatever their virus is.
16
u/skaterfromtheville May 23 '24
You seem fun
-6
u/laffnlemming May 23 '24
If you invite me to your party, you can confirm that.
I do standup comedy.
9
6
u/skaterfromtheville May 23 '24
You don’t go to restaurants due to lack of hand washing and people sneezing, I don’t know if a party is your scene…
-1
u/laffnlemming May 23 '24
It is not, dear.
The last time that I was at Tacovore, they had people lined up outside the door and one semi-functional restroom that some hobo was taking a wash in.
-1
u/laffnlemming May 23 '24
Please remind me, u/skaterfromtheville to not invite you to my parties this summery. OK. I like hand washers.
