Doordash income

Does anyone do Doordash as their main source of income here? How viable is it? I'm considering moving back in with family so my rent would be significantly decreased and would just need to make enough for my car payment, insurance and a couple of credit card bills. Just wanted to get some insight if possible before making a decision...thanks in advance.

It’s okay not great, you can definitely live off it but it’s not gonna pay a great or in the same amount each time. Also keep in mind if you get into an accident with your car and don’t have it on business insurance policy then they may not cover you.

Use a bike, reduce your risk, get healthy, make side cash.

Not a chance in this town. DD would never send you orders on a bike here

Ok not great sums it up. If you are going to do it, do all the apps. Walmart and instacart have paid me the most. DoorDash and Uber eats kinda blow IMo.

be ready to put miles on your car and be smart about the trips you take.

I did it as main income between jobs but also have a partner with a good job. Now I just side hustle it for extra income as I am back to fully employed.

Do you have a degree or experience? There are jobs in town.

Here are two great examples of the types of trips to never accept cuz you will just lose money. Figure the feds say it costs $0.65 a mile to operate a car.. one would lose money on these trips. PLUS the time you spend losing money, you aren’t getting offers that make you money. These are trips that are sitting in the app this second that will never get picked up (by me).

Thank you for sharing the information. Very interesting and insightful

I find this whole discussion fascinating. I think for the worker It’s a total scam (ok total is a broad statement….it’s a scam for 90%).

My (unscientific research……., )I have spoken to ‘many many Many drivers (more uber….than dd but enough to get the gist)

My pov - these companies are using people (the customer) to get them “addicted”. It’s not to make the driver money.

Hence they (uber, DoorDash) will do the minimum to keep a driver interested. Any math I have ever seen on vehicle depreciation makes the situation a loss. Maybe a high end driver in Los Angeles can make it work…but a normal driver will see some cash in the checking account….but overlook they are getting killed replacing tires and brakes.

These companies are building their demand to ditch the driver for the automated delivery (car, drone, robot, etc). Doordash wants to fly a drone from city market to someone’s house…:.not have a driver. That’s where DoorDash will make money …..

They are not invented to make money for the driver. They are trying to build demand for their IPO.

I think you can cash flow some money by driving….. but over time you will be down…

Just my $.02

Agree. That’s why the big warning on what to accept.

Here, there are enough high paying grocery and Walmart deliveries within a 4 mile radius that the mileage can be low if you wanna earn, say some extra bike part cash. Couldn’t do it to survive here really

It's not worth the hassle, in my opinion. I did DD and Imsta for a while in the area, and while Imwould have good days and bad days It didnt make ends meet in the end. Bu the time I accounted for vehicle wear and tear, fuel, insurance, and my own time, it was pretty much a wash. I probably made more claiming business expenses and losses at tax time than I did in actual earnings. But maybe the playing field has changed and things are less saturated with drivers. I honestly don't know since I took a regular W-2 job and am doing much better.

Doordash has a funny subreddit. Mostly complaining about wacky customers. They do help with questions for new drivers though

I have a son in college in Tennessee. I pay his rent and tuition, insurance, etc…But all of his food, gas, entertainment, etc, is up to him. He drives for DD and Uber Eats, and never has to ask me for a dime. He says he makes a little more with Uber Eats, but he does plenty of “dashing” too. Hope that provides some insight.

Honestly? When I lived in Durango I tried to order doordash a lot but there weren't any drivers. Could probably make decent cash off it. Hazard pay if you have a vehicle equipped to handle snow

I've DoorDashed in Phoenix and Durango, and Durango has never been worth it. I rarely get orders around here, it seems really unreasonable to wait around for hours for a single order.
