How often do you find sensitive information in the dumpster?

I mainly look for goods and don’t pay attention to papers, but it does happen. During college move out I picked up notebooks and some of the writing in there would be highly embarrassing for the private university sorority girl that wrote it.

Im out to support my family with foods and goods. Im not out to scam anyone. There are lots of stupid people and opportunities out there. Not my monkies and not my circus. Im not rescuing the world.

agreed, its super important to make sure sensitive info is shredded and not simply thrown away. this book covers physical pen testing or "Red Teaming" as it were. im not out to do any of that either i was just curious

After reading this book and playing around with cell phones in the early 2000's I started diving at phone stores too, back in the day you could find all kinds of phones and accessories in the dumpsters behind Verizon. Office dumpsters is great for furniture, ink cartridges(use to sell them), basic office supplies, and the occasional full box from ex employees desk.

But once I was pocking around at an att office dumpster amongst others. I open the sliding door and right in front of me is a clear trash bag with a postit note on the inside with a name, birth date, address, phone number, CC# with security code and exp date. Everything you needed to sign up for an account. I took it, wrote a note about how I found it and mailed it back to them. Came back to a locked dumpster.

Often. If it's military paperwork I secure and have it disposed of either on post or one of the mobile shredding services.

I could easily find it if I looked for it, but I look for physical items. I know of someone whose main hustle was finding and exploiting sensitive info, though.

I rip up all my private papers as I don’t have a shredder or sometimes I’ll just pour leftover gravy or ranch on it.

I’ve found some CCs and I cut them up so no one can scam the person

Ah, "The Art and Science of Dumpster Diving" is hysterical, with lots of great tips sprinkled in.

And yes, people leave all kinds of private stuff in their trash.
