Seeking Opinions Looking to buy a Dodge Dakota.
I’m in the market for a compact truck and I’ve been stuck between choosing a ranger or a 2nd generation Dakota. I’m looking for something reliable (which is why I’d go with a v6 3.9l magnum).
If anyone here has had experience with both vehicles I’d love to hear and maybe get suggestions on what you’d recommend?

Seeking Opinions Help? Should I Buy?
galleryA firefighter buddy of mine told me he has a dakota for sell. Same day, he showed me the vehicle. Drove it and everything rides good, no jerking or trans problems at all. I checked under it(even though we live in the south) and verified no rust. He's changed spark plugs, transfer case, and all that will be needed is a blower motor now and maybe some brakes and tires in about 3-4 months. It has 220k miles on it and he wants $5500. Would offering $4500 be a good idea? Help please this would be my first dodge

Seeking Opinions Trade my Ducati for a 93 Dakota?
galleryHey yall I’m here seeking opinions and advice. I had my 821 monster up for sale asking about 4.5k and just got offered a 93’ Dakota with the 5.2 v8, 4x4. Truck is in decent shape ( scrapes and scratches) but maintenance seems kept up on. He gave me interval for his fluid changes and a few other things: -brand new tires -aftermarket stereo and 10in sub -recent water pump -driveshaft joints 2k miles ago -brake pads few months ago -has a/c. & new condenser -passed smog a few days ago -170k miles on it Oh he’s throwing in the camper shell & kayak😂
On my end, the bike is perfect except for a minor dent in the rim from a pothole. 3rd owner, never dropped and just did the big desmo service on it about 2k miles ago. It’s sitting at 23k miles rn. Always kept up with oil changes only thing it will need soon are front fork seals. Also have a bunch of extra parts I’m throwing in with it.
What do you guys think? Never had a Dakota this old but my dad had a 2nd gen a while back and my uncle sold me his 2nd gen ram a few years ago but ended up selling it.
Thanks guys!🙏🏽 TLDR; trade my 2015 Ducati 821 monster for a 1993 dodge Dakota??

Seeking Opinions 2001 Dodge Dakota v8 with 4wd, to buy or not to buy?
I've been looking for one for almost a year now and I've found a perfect one in a dark blue with 183k miles. The only issues are that it does have lights on the dash. Check engine light, (ABS) light, and Parking Brake light. No rust!
I was able to read the codes and came up with 3 DTC's, 2 are for o2 sensors which the seller did let me know about when I asked if there any issues withe truck. Should be an easy fix as long as the sensors are accessible. the 3rd DTC was about a power steering issue. can't recall what the actual code, but I'm not too worries about it.
The biggest thing I'm worried about is the (ABS) and parking brake light. The seller said its an issue with the left front abs sensor. Said its a simple fix to just replace the sensor, but did admit that you have to take off the knuckle to access it .
I'm a Honda technician and most of our vehicles have everything easy to access, so I'm wondering is any of these issues may present a major problem. Oh, just realized I'm going to have to get SAE sockets, damn.
Anyway, thanks for the help! Going to go look at it again tomorrow! Hoping to become a Dakota owner soon!

Seeking Opinions I'm looking at a sick little 88' Dakota with the 3.9 V6, thoughts?
The truck is sweet and the exterior is in good condition, it leaks about a quart a month and also has random rpm surges at idle once warm, dash has dome cracking and what not, interior is a solid 4/10 and after some detailing could be a 6/10. They're asking $1200 and it can drive home, does that seem like a good deal? I'm also wondering if there's an aftermarket for these, I can't find any aftermarket parts for this model year of engine.

Seeking Opinions What should we do?
galleryThis 1993 dakota sport belongs to my dad, he got her as a gift from my mom in 1998, she had 24,000 miles on her when he got her, he has put almost 100,000 on her, she was his work truck up until late 2020, when he was driving over some railroad tracks, and the tire blew, no biggie right? WRONG!.... long story short he lost the keys for 4 years, he finally found them, and now after setting for 4 years, she has been infested with mice, bugs, and other things, I keep trying to tell him that it may not be worth it, but he won't budge, I want to help him at least try to get her in running and driving condition, what should we do, any tips?

Seeking Opinions Just replaced radiator but trans lines won't stop dripping
Hello, it's been a bit since my last post but my 3rd gen decided to start dripping from the trans cooling lines. This didn't occur at first however, I just noticed the drip early today.
I believe the lines are moving too much which is what is causing it. The support for the rad rusted out before I got the truck so in the meantime I put a piece of wood to act as a make-shift lower tie bar for the rad. However I believe it has finally decided to rot so I have a support coming in Friday.
Anyways I was wanting to ask to see if it's the lack of a rad support that could cause the cooling lines/rad to move while driving which could have caused the leak.
If there are also possible causes please let me know!!
10/23/24 Edit it's trans fluid that is leaking, not coolant
10/24/24 Edit** thank you all for the advice! I plan on trying to reseat the lines once the rad mount comes in as I believe the rad is moving too much. Should this work I will update the post.
Advice is still welcomed and appreciated

Seeking Opinions 99 dakota needs oil every 600 miles
So for context I have a 99 dakota 5.2L v8 with now 130,000 miles on it. I've only had it for about a year and I noticed the oil in the beginning but now I'm adding 1 qt every 600 miles and I'm not driving fast 60 at highest and it's not leaking on the ground. The exhaust is white not blue, coolent is still green. If anyone could help that would be great.

Seeking Opinions Muffler recommendations
So I’ve done a dual 2.5 inch exhaust with an X Pipe on my 5.2 Dakota. Right now I’m running dual flow fx mufflers and while I like the amount of noise I want something more aggressive like a chambered muffler without being so loud the neighbors are waking up. Anyone know a good muffler for this?

Seeking Opinions Suspension upgrade
I know a Dakota won't ever drive like a sport sedan, but I'm curious to get people's opinions on handling upgrades. Especially to reduce wheel hop during initial acceleration. I've got the 2008 quad cab 4x4.

Seeking Opinions Good buy $2.9k???
galleryWould this be a good buy considering it needs a new differential and possible some transmission work? Me and my dad are taking a look this weekend. I know it’s not an 04 because that’s the newer gen and it looks like their for sale sign on the window says $2.5k??
This would be my first truck and one to learn manual on. I’m also in an into to auto shop class so hopefully I’ll be able to wrench in it myself a bit. We like that it’s got low miles for what we’re paying.

Seeking Opinions Private Sale or Trade In
Pic for tax
Hey all, trading in me ol Dakota for something more suited to my current life. I'll love her forever.
What can I realistically expect for a private Sale on this? I'm debating just throwing it at the dealer, but they're only offering $3k.
09, 4.7 V8 Big Horn 4x4 All service records for 6 years of ownership including:
New tie rod ends, bearings, boots etc. brand new tires and battery, regular oil changes, transmission Sensor, trans flush 1 year ago, and likely a few I've forgotten.
No oil or fluid leaks of any kind.
One bad cat, 2 bad 02 sensors, and some rust appearing on the roof. Several small scratches and one ding in front fender (like that when I bought it, looks like it rubbed a post)
After market short ram intake installed, as well as a Sony single din system + low profile backseat sub and aftermarket door speakers. (I still own original intake/filter and stereo, which I'd give with the truck)
Obviously a private Sale would be better, but do you think it would sell quick enough/for enough money to go through the headache?

Seeking Opinions Ownership opinions?
I'm looking at getting a new to me vehicle. I really like Dodge/Ram trucks but want a mid-size, so I'm looking at the Dakota. Most the ones I see have 150,000+ miles though. I'm a novice mechanic and enjoy working on my own stuff, so a truck needing TLC doesn't scare me. Is the Dakota worth it as a dedicated driver though at high miles?

Seeking Opinions Wondering what to look for.
Today I looked at a 2003 Dakota extended cab 4x4 with the 4.7L magnum, the body and frame are in very nice shape, the motor runs fantastic no ticks or any weird noises. but the truck needs some small things, soft brakes (goes to the floor but work) ball joints, thermostat, gas tank strap, tires, brakes, abs speed sensor and a front driveshaft. I've got it all priced on amazon to $400, except brakes and tires. Is there any thing else I should look at or replace for the hell of it? I'm going to buy the truck this weekend. Never owned a dodge before.

Seeking Opinions 2000, 3.9L
Hello everyone new here, is there any simple way to change my heater core without taking the whole dash out? And if so how much is reasonable to pay to have it done?
