Type 1 Cell therapy first: transplanted islets working without immunosuppressives
breakthrought1d.orgI was diagnosed in 2004 so I’ve heard the “in 5 years” talk for 20 years, but I enjoy seeing the work being done to help future generations of T1 diabetics.

Type 2 Time to celebrate!
My A1C went from 12 to 4.5 in a little over a year, both cholesterols levels, blood pressure and resting heart rates are almost perfect! I’m cutting back on all my meds but continuing the diet and workouts to keep the weight off. It was a struggle but worth it in the long run

Type 2 Typ2 2s on Metformin...
From when you were first diagnosed, assuming you started metformin first, how long did it take you to get your fasting glucose levels between 80 and 120 mg/dL?

Healthcare Dental Tip
I just found out my dental plan covers cleanings every three months, instead of every six months for those with certain health conditions, including diabetes. All I had to do was opt-in, and it didn't cost me anything extra.
Additional cleanings can be helpful in removing plaque buildup, and identifying cavities earlier.
I'd definitely reccommend looking into whether or not your dental insurance might offer this service ☺️

Type 1 Nys law now in effect
NY governor signed a law preventing cost sharing for insulin. So, just filled my tresiba and novolog and no copay (used to be 90 and 60$).
Strange but my freestyle sensors did charge cost-sharing...$200.43.
Im going to have to chchallenge that charge. I believe the stripes and meters and sensors are included in the law.

I’ve been struggling with staying awake in the morning and can’t find a way a get around and I’m always sleeping during important tasks. Type 2 Oops!
I was wondering why I had a strong urge to go to the candy bucket we keep at the desk... Then 70 happened and I felt awful! It's coming back up now. It's crazy how our brains know what to do before it happens!

Type 1 Help in case of Hypoglycemia
Hi guys,
Would love to know what you carry with you for emergency cases? I normally take gummy bears because size/carb ratio is pretty good and one doesn't run out of supply too quick.
Would be also interested in the stuff you use to stabile the levels during sports (cardio like running, hiking, biking). Milk products helped me a lot.
I think there should be a better solution which is much easier too dose and doesn't result in overshooting after a low. You know something?

CFRD Can you feel bad the day after having a high blood sugar level?
I was diagnosed with Diabetes (Cystic Fibrosis related diabetes).
I have yet to get a rapid insuline ordination.
Yesterday I got some candy as a gift, and while I usually don't indulge, I ate quite a lot, like 250 grams (8,8 oz). I wanted to see my blood levels after eating and took a test 30 minutes after finishing and my blood sugar was 20 mmol/L (360 mg/dL). This was around 19:00 (7PM) and at 22:00 (10PM) my blood sugar was around 10 mmol/L (180 mg/dL).
I fell asleep and then slept for 12 hours! Today my mind has felt very strange. I am having a hard time to focus and keep my train of thought. I feel anxious and like I have brain fog. I am also very moody and get extremely frustrated to the point of becoming enraged from the smallest problem.
Not sure of this is connected to my diabetes or what is going on? Did anyone else feel like this after having a high blood sugar? I never eat candy/sugar, and I always avoid fast carbs..

Type 1 Is my son’s libre faulty?
My 12 year old son has cystic fibrosis. His cf team want to check that he isn’t pre diabetic (as this can start in people with CF around his age) We had his sensor fitted by the CF hospital team today at 3pm. I was told to wait a while for it to calibrate before scanning. I have since scanned it a few times to see if it’s working but I keep getting a screen, after the scan complete notification, to replace the sensor.. then it goes back to this screen. Does this mean that his sensor isn’t working, or do I just need to wait a while longer for it to calibrate? The hospital have told me to contact them if there are any issues, but I want to be sure that this isn’t normal before potentially unnecessarily contacting them tomorrow.

Type 2 Falling Asleep after eating without sugar rising
I keep falling asleep within an hour of eating, though my sugar doesn't start to raise for at least 3hrs and usually peaks 4-5hrs later. Due to the slow rise, I don't take insulin with the food, as it ends up making me hypo long before the food kicks in. Half the time, I don't eat food that requires insulin at all, but I'll still fall asleep. My eyes get teary and I see funky (I call it hall of mirrors vision), my nose even runs, and I can try so hard to fight it with caffeine or moving around, but it makes no difference. I crash. My glucose can be a flat freaking line, so what gives? Has anyone experienced this? My dr doesn't know if it's related.

Rant The Frustrations of a Diabetic New Year
Not sure if this is for everyone, or not, but the sheer number of appointments we have every year makes the start of the New Year very frustrating. I'm already pre-booking 2/3 of my PTO because of 4x Endo Appts, 2x Dentist, 2x Family Doctor, 1x Eye Doctor, 1x Podiatrist, and 1x Dermatologist (for non-Diabetic reasons).
Good grief! I hope I don't actually get sick and have to miss work!

Type 2 What are the best scientifically backed advice to preventing type 2 diabetes?
The obvious advice is always "don't be overweight, eat less refined sugar/simple carbs, and exercise more". However, loads of older people I've come across seem to follow all this advice and are very slender and still get type 2 diabetes. Conversely, lots of people are severely overweight, eat huge amounts of sugar daily and never exercise, yet do not develop type 2 diabetes, even in older age. I know there's a genetic component also of course but wondered what else could help reduce chances of developing type 2 diabetes beyond the obvious suggestions above?
I have a lot of family history of type 2 diabetes on both sides of my family (so likely to have some genetic element to it) but would like to do as many preventative things as I can. I'm 30 years old, female and often get jittery if I don't eat frequently suggesting poor blood sugar control. I exercise 3-5 times a week (including walking, rebounding, yoga, strength training), I very rarely eat refined sugar/simple carbs (way less than the "recommended daily limit"), I eat whole foods 80-90% of the time, I'm a size 8, I've never drank fizzy drinks/smoke, I don't think alcohol, my jittery feeling has always occurred e.g. if I eat dinner at 6pm, I will be lightheated and jittery and requiring food at 10pm.
Blood test result for diabetes markers always come out as "normal" but my lifelong poor blood sugar control, and genetic history of type 2 diabetes do concern me.
Any other advice I should implement to minimize the chances of developing type 2 diabetes? I've heard all sorts with regards to 6 small meals vs. 3 big meals, fasting periods, avoiding fish, including fish, time you go to bed etc etc. It can often be confusing and contradictory so really looking for advice. Thanks!

Type 2 Stopped Taking Metformin
My A1C has been at our below 5.7 for 6 months+. My Dr. Said we can stop the Metformin and continue with (1) 0.5mg Ozempic/wk. I would like to know if anyone has come off Metformin, and if so, did you experience any side effects? I'm so nervous and it feels weird not to be taking it. I was taking 500mgx2/day, but my goal has been to be med free from the beginning and I feel like I owe it to myself to try. I think it takes 2-6 weeks to leave the system so I really haven't noticed anything with yet. It's still too early.

Type 1 To CGM users (specifically freestyle Libre 3) has anyone else been "losing signal" througout the day since December?
For some reason I have started having this 3 to 4 times a day for a month now. Changed patches, still the same thing...
Coukd be my phone, but I suspect it may have something to do with uodates in the app. Anyone else having the same?

Type 2 What's the actual target A1C to strive for?
So, I've been type 2 for exactly 1 year now. The entire time I've had the understanding that the goal A1C is 5.7. but for a couple weeks now I've been seeing things suggesting that the A1C for normal humans is more like 4.3. Should that be my actual goal?
Thanks.

Type 1 I need Help with Libre 2
Hello my libre 2 is always sensing 20 points off below 100 and always slowly declining below 70 regularly. now with finger prick I'm 100 but libre shows 80. Especially night i do feel some symptoms like little heart rate getting faster little anxiety and some light on my eyes. Wakes me up in panic but finger prick shows im at 85-95.(before cgm i thought this symptoms caused by stress but im good not stressed recently)(im in honeymoon so why my bg in good numbers). I read glucagon response is better when i produce insulin. Is this just a problem with cgm or may i have basal rate problem? My doctor app is in 1 month. My cgm shows lows all the time i had to close alarms and snack up. It does shows almost %100 accurate when im higher like 120's-140's-150's even 180 and knows exacly when im going up or down. Have anyone experienced some like this ? Any info will be useful for me !

Type 1 Help
Have had it for the last 4 weeks that no matter how much insulin I will inject or if I switch the catheter or anything. My blood sugar is not dropping down. Over the last 12 hours I haven’t gone below 230, but no higher than 280. Here is the thing though. I gave myself around 66 units over that duration (sometimes 20 in half an hour as I’ve had this several times in the last weeks. Switched everything out for new, but it doesn’t seem to be of any effect. I am a type now for 22 years and have never experienced something like this. I’m 25 years old, I can’t get a hold of my specialist for several weeks now (can not just go there as I live in another country and my insurance here doesn’t cover it). I’m lost and can’t find a way out. I don’t have an inactive lifestyle. My nutrition isn’t bad either and I just can’t seem to find a reason other than stressors. If anyone has any ideas about what I could do or why this is happening please let me know

Type 2 Advice on NHS (UK) doctor visit, please?
I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow (NHS, UK) to address my concerns about diabetes (I'm female, 50s, overweight, and showing symptoms, also had parent with type 2). I'm not good with doctor's appointments and always end up feeling I wasn't taken seriously. Can anyone suggest the sort of thing I should expect from the GP? Assuming they agree to blood tests, would this be done by them, or would they send me for one and I'd have to ring for the results?
Sorry if this seems terribly naive. I just want to have some idea of how the doctor will likely proceed. Thanks!

Gestational Diabetes Short high spike or long low spike
I was just diagnosed with GDM and could use some help understanding my Libre readings. I’m managing on diet alone right now. I’ve noticed two concerning types of spikes
A high spike up to 210 but comes down within 1-2 hours back to my resting level of 80-90.
A lower spike of up to 140-150 but it stays high for 4-6 hours.
Which is worse for me? I’ve noticed certain types of foods cause the two spike types and I’m trying to choose better foods.
There’s also foods that only bring me up to 140 and comes down within 1-2 hours and I’ve been sticking with those as much as I can.
Thanks!
