Will a maglock make it legal to purchase a new rifle that would normally be banned?

A local gunshop told me that if I ordered a rifle online to their shop, they could install a maglock on it to make it legal for purchase. I wanted to know if anyone else has done this, and if it would indeed make it legal to purchase?

I also wanted to know how easily would it be reversable to uninstall if Delaware ever overturned the "assault weapons" ban.

The Bill is explicit on indicating that a fixed magazine is one that requires a tool to remove the magazine or disassembly of a firearm. Most of the California-compliant magazine-locking solutions achieve compliance with that verbiage (Juggernaut tactical device, bullet button, compmag fixed mag, etc.). The intent appears to be to ensure that it isn’t as easy to reload a firearm as pushing a magazine release button with your finger.

If your solution retains the magazine in the receiver unless the firearm is disassembled (such as separating the receivers) or requires a tool external to the human body to release the magazine, it should be compliant according to the law. There is no specific solution recommended in that Bill, so that’s why there is grey area. There are lots of ways to fix a magazine in a receiver.

Please keep in mind that I’m not a lawyer and as far as I know, there hasn’t been any legal precedence in challenging this bill in court yet. It is our own risk to take in assuming that we are following the law.

I don't know the legality, but would clarify with the shop what kit they are installing specifically. They are usually removable but manufacturers have made permenant options for lower receivers. These are usually intended for strict gun law states like CA or IL though.

I havn't kept up to date with the most recent gun legislature unfortunately. I'm kinda just waiting for it to be overturned so I can go HAM lol.

The AWB case that's been working it's way through the courts has been scheduled for conference by the Supreme Court on 1/10/25. Still will be a while but at least it's moving.

Is this the maglock? It is reversible. I would say get it - then remove this and replace with a bullet button

Most online places I’ve found won’t ship non compliant guns or accessories to the ffl if they aren’t legal in the state.

This is unfortunately not legal.

Even if the FFL has a 07 license and is allowed to perform “manufacturing activities” they would still be importing an assault weapon into the State for the purpose of resale. Additionally, an FFL cannot perform any work on a firearm prior to sale without an 07 type license, which includes even simple things like fixed magazine devices.
