One year down. Shout out to my fellow OR/WA commuters
I’ve just finished my first full year of cycling from Vancouver to PDX via I5/Columbia Slough.
There’s generally the same handful of riders I cross paths with every week.
Whether it’s a smile, wave, peace sign, or nod; it brings a great deal of happiness to me. Especially on the crappy days.
Looking forward to another year. Stay safe out there ✌️

Best place to sell a Blix Ebike?
I have a Sol X Ebike that's only been used once. I need to sell it and move cross country. Where are the best places to post it?

Suggestions for getting a road repaved?
What’s the best way to get PBOT to pay attention to a stretch of road that’s unsafe for both cyclists and motorists? I wrote to PDXroads@portlandoregon.gov but I’m skeptical they’ll end up doing anything.
The stretch I’m concerned about is SE Belmont between SE 69th & 60th, ie coming off Mt Tabor. There are bad ruts that cause cars to edge into the oncoming lanes, and cyclists really should take the middle of the road going westbound to avoid the ruts. And it’s even worse in the dark, when I sometimes see unaware park visitors on bikes heading down Belmont.
Of course we can ride through the park or down Scott Dr but those are slow and have their own issues, and aren’t good for commuting, for those of us that live up there and bike regularly. So we use Belmont, but it’s been bad for years and is getting worse. Bad for cars and buses too.
Any suggestions welcome.

Rental Recommendations
Hi everyone, I’m coming into town in a couple weeks and was looking to rent a decent road bike for about a week? Any recommendations for bike shops or places that rent out fairly nice road bikes?

Selling Used Parts?
Modifying and replacing components on my Tarmac. I don’t want to deal with hassle of packing and shipping - where’s a good place to list my no-longer needed parts for sale? To give you an idea of stuff I’m looking to sell: Ultegra crankset (12-speed), Specialized carbon fiber handlebars, etc.

Ride to Hood River - Mitchell Point tunnel?
Hi! I am hoping to finally make it out to see the new Mitchell Pt tunnel tomorrow. What I am trying to understand though - is it possible to bike all the way through to Hood River, even if it means hopping on I-84? My understanding is the tunnel was closed to bikes for the event, and there is still 1 short section of the bike path route that is not completed, that last few miles into Hood River. I guess I just want to know, will I be able to bike through the tunnel and then hope on I-84 (as terrible as it might be) for the last handful of miles? A RWGPS route I made shows this at 63 miles from my house.
Plan B is to ride back to Cascade Lochs which will be ~ 70 mile ride, so I'm not too worried either way, as long as the CAT buses are running!

White Bianchi road bike on Springwater
While riding on the Springwater a couple of hours ago I saw an unlikely person wheeling a white Bianchi road bike near Cedarville. He was also wheeling a scooter and his friend was pushing a shopping cart. I don’t know how to find out if the bike was stolen and I just noticed it in passing and it seemed like something wasn’t right. Is there anyplace to check?

Hi all! I’m going to be moving to Portland from Colorado. Any cycling group recommendations with younger people with a range of speeds.
Also any good trails for road bike or gravel trails would be appreciated.

Commuter Survey - for UO student
Hello! I am conducting a survey on bike commuting as a part of my master’s research at the University of Oregon (the Portland campus, which was formerly Concordia campus). As a fellow cyclist and commuter, I was excited to take on this domain and learn more about other people’s personal experience bike commuting. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete.

We really appreciate all responses! They are a huge help to this project. Please share with friends!

Has anyone had a staple bike rack installed at their home?
I can't bring my bike in, so wondering if it's affordable to have a traditional "staple" bike rack installed in the hellstrip (aka "parking strip") in front of my house. This local company has them, but requires contacting them for a quote.

Bike shop recs for a tall beginner?
Hello, for Christmas and family member who is 6'4" wants a bike. He wants to start cycling for fun and exercise and was told he should get a bike made for tall people.
I would appreciate any shop recommendations. We'd prefer a local shop so they can make sure it's comfortable.
Also, if anyone has an idea of what the cost might look like that would be helpful too. I know they can get really expensive but since it isn't a serious hobby yet he wouldn't want top of the line. Is under $1,000 a reasonable expectation?

Where to buy Zwift Smart Hub Spare parts?
After a major garage clean up I can’t find the spacer or zwift click to change gears. Is there any where to pick these up locally? Or if someone has spares I would be happy to buy them.

If so, just for service — or for products too? What percent do you tip?

Do you know North Portland's shirtless bicyclist?
Hi, my name is Aaron. I’m a north Portland writer, bicyclist and skateboarder. I’m wondering if you can help me contact the bicyclist who pedals through NoPo with his shirt off in all kinds of weather. I’d love to do a brief, celebratory Q&A with him for a local publication.
My family has marveled at him for years and always wondered his story. I admire him. I love his dedication to riding and his embrace of the elements. Each morning he rides near our house, but my daughter’s school schedule has made it impossible to flag him down in person.
So, do you know his name and how to reach him? It would be a short, non-judgmental, celebration of his uniqueness and place in Portland life. The dude is a boss.
Thank you,
Aaron

FYI: Multi-Use Path blocked along Portland Rd
it's been getting more crowded with RVs and cars there in recent weeks. The strip of gravel and grass along the buildings on the west side was cleared of RVs a while ago and afterwards was blocked with a lame little orange temporary barrier. Of course this just made all those people go to the other side of the road where the path is. So, now the path is a corridor with RVs and cars on either side in places. Yesterday a car was on blocks/jacks right on the path while it was being worked on or stripped or whatever ongoing project. When i rode by the guy was climbing out from under it and looked at me confused or surprised to see someone using the path. I went into the gravel to go around him and another RV. Kind of a drag since that path is typically not in great shape due to the gravel. I reported it via the pdxreporter site. hopefully they get to it soon. That path gets a decent amount of traffic every day. just heads up if that's part of a route you're doing.
