The craw is dead, long live the craw Photo

My sweetest CPO girl Grizabella (last two pics) died over Thanksgiving, presumably of old age. She’d been slowing down for a while and eventually hid away to molt and never came back out. Losing her was surprisingly hard, but it finally felt right to get a new crawfish, so yesterday I went to the LFS and picked up this new stripy baby.

RIP, Grizabella. You were so amazing I can’t imagine not having a crawfish now. I’ve kept fish for many years and loss is always part of that, but she was one of the ones that will stick with me.

And welcome home, new nameless stripy girl! Tentatively a girl, anyway—she’s so tiny right now it’s hard to tell lol. She’s barely bigger than a cherry shrimp! I can’t wait to watch her grow!

Lol it was a mealworm. She was a dwarf crawfish, so pretty small even full grown. I keep mealworms for my tarantulas so she’d get one as treat every now and then.

I feel for your loss... Dwarves have shorter live spans, about 1 year and a half... Good luck with the new cray 🖖🏻

Thank you, I appreciate it. Yeah, dwarf crawfish are heartbreakers. Grizabella was already full grown and berried when I got her so there’s no telling how old she actually was. This time I got the tiniest baby they had lol

This little one has some big claws to step into, but she’s already so cute and funny. She’s been trying to grab food from the tongs but then she’ll spook herself and jump back… them come right back to the tongs for the food 😂
