This chart just tells me that Auburn is probably a good team. Maybe really good.

Auburn is scary.

Until last night I thought Tennessee was scary too. They still are, but now Florida is too.

SEC basketball this year is what SEC football wishes it was

17

u/The_Mursenary Auburn Tigers 8h ago

Bad loss but there’s gonna be some wtf road losses in sec play this year

3

u/TheTrueVanWilder Purdue Boilermakers 7h ago

Shit, the B1G already has some WTF home losses

9

u/War-eaglern Auburn Tigers 9h ago

Watch Miss State too. I thought they were a sleeper pick, but now they’re waking up the conference with a groin kick

29

u/Ambitious_Tax891 Illinois Fighting Illini 13h ago

I knew Tennessee wasn’t scary when watching them play Illinois. It was just a matter of time. But Auburn hell yeah…Bruce pearl 🤮

-4

u/lactosandtolerance Auburn Tigers • Marquette Golden Eagles 13h ago

Get over it, its been what, 20 years?

36

u/Dimeskis Illinois Fighting Illini 13h ago

Closer to 35…and…no.

4

u/wolfenstein734 10h ago

Wait what did Bruce do?

9

u/notthatkindofdrdrew Auburn Tigers 8h ago

I’ve never heard anyone give a coherent response to this question. The amount of hate is always very disproportionate to anything they allege that he did. Coaches at other schools have been caught providing money, drugs, “escorts”, etc. But Bruce ratted on some people doing skeevy things 35 years ago and gave some prospects a hotdog. Apparently he is satan incarnate.

2

u/Drekand Auburn Tigers 7h ago

He’s not a bad person for that stuff but he is a massive right-wing douche bag. I say that as an Auburn fan.

1

u/odomandr Auburn Tigers 6h ago

I hate that Auburn elevates his platform for his religious and political ideology. Wde

1

u/TheInsatiableRoach Auburn Tigers 4h ago

I hate it when people have their own religious and political beliefs it makes me sick /s

0

u/notthatkindofdrdrew Auburn Tigers 5h ago

That’s a valid criticism. However, that is also a relatively recent criticism of BP and not what the Illinois fanbase has been frothing over for decades. Furthermore, there are tons of people in collegiate athletics with similar political philosophies that don’t get the level of vitriol that BP receives, so this argument still doesn’t compute.

u/Dimeskis Illinois Fighting Illini 5h ago

Long story.

Back in the 80s Pearl was an assistant at Iowa under Tom Davis. He was battling Illinois for a recruit (Deon Thomas?) and recorded a phone call where he admitted Illinois gave him a Chevy Blazer. Pearl turned the tape into the NCAA, who investigated and then put Illinois on probation. It was right at the time Lou Henson and more importantly his assistant Jimmy Collins had the program rolling. One of the best runs in Illinois history was effectively ended. Jimmy Collins career took most of the hit, and Henson never achieved that level of success again.

A lot of older Illinois fans have different levels of conspiracy about the whole thing, but most of them agree fuck Bruce Pearl and Iowa (obviously).

We get it, yall are jealous

😘

-9

u/RunnerTenor Illinois Fighting Illini 10h ago

I'm here for this. 100%. Dude craps on Illinois, years later craps on Tennessee, why is he even allowed back in the game?

-11

u/edgyusernameguy Illinois Fighting Illini • Illinois … 10h ago

Agreed, fuck that rat snitch

-17

u/Just-Salad302 Duke Blue Devils 12h ago

Nah we dominated them!

28

u/rogozh1n Duke Blue Devils • Syracuse Orange 11h ago

We won by about the home court advantage. We did not dominate them.

23

u/BigH0ney Duke Blue Devils 11h ago

We did not dominate auburn. Come on now

11

u/r_not_me North Carolina Tar Heels 10h ago

Is 6 points dominating now?

7

u/TheTrueVanWilder Purdue Boilermakers 12h ago

Well that's because you live in your own stratosphere and are also scary. Your conference not so much though

4

u/Just-Salad302 Duke Blue Devils 12h ago

True lol they aren’t doing too hot, think you guys have a decent shot this year too!

11

u/UnderstandingOdd679 10h ago

I thought this chart is showing that Auburn was the most offensive. By far.

5

u/r_not_me North Carolina Tar Heels 10h ago

Very offensive

12

u/BoysAndGirlsClubCU Big Ten 12h ago

Houston was even more of an outlier than auburn last year on this same chart. They didn’t make the elite 8. Just a reminder March Madness will happen!

12

u/Gobbledygooker316 Houston Cougars 9h ago

This chart doesn’t predict injuries lol

3

u/DHiL Houston Cougars 7h ago

I think you’ll find one of the best players in the NCAA was hurt while Houston was leading their S16 game.

1

u/r_not_me North Carolina Tar Heels 12h ago

No doubt early season rankings and statistics are not indicative of tournament performance. Just fun to see

1

u/porgy_tirebiter North Carolina Tar Heels 2h ago

Where are the Heels? Below the bottom limit I guess?

98

u/KaitRaven Illinois Fighting Illini 13h ago

I think this would be better without the white circles around the team logos. Teams behind other teams are more obscured.

Also, you should include a source or reference for the data.

19

u/InitiativeSavings797 Illinois Fighting Illini 13h ago

We are under Florida I think

14

u/MrAshleyMadison Florida Gators 12h ago

Us blue and orange bros gotta stick together.

2

u/elkman_23 Illinois Fighting Illini 8h ago

Good job doing what we couldn't against Tennessee

1

u/ConsiderationOld9897 Auburn Tigers 7h ago

I concur except on 2/8.

8

u/BEEGPEENS Wisconsin Badgers 12h ago

Thank you lol I was looking for you guys for the past 5 min being like “where the fuck is Illinois they should be RIGHT HERE”

10

u/TrillMurray47 Illinois Fighting Illini 13h ago

See Oregon just to the right? Now add 30 and you basically got it.

35

u/Mercuryssheets Iowa State Cyclones • Drake Bulldogs 14h ago

Where are these ratings from?

14

u/fcocyclone Iowa State Cyclones 12h ago

looks like barttorvik from seeing ours. we're higher on kenpom.

5

u/Johnny_Minoxidil Houston Cougars • Rice Owls 10h ago

Nope, we’re rated higher than Duke defensively on torvik. Users name is cbbanalytics so I’m gonna go waaaay out on a limb and say that one

4

u/Fly_Rodder Syracuse Orange 12h ago

This looks like the graphics you can generate on https://cbbanalytics.com/

18

u/disposable-assassin Arizona Wildcats 12h ago

2

u/emiller7 Texas Tech Red Raiders 11h ago

Yo mama. Get Wrecked Mr. Not as high offensive efficiency metric

23

u/cinciNattyLight Villanova Wildcats 13h ago

Sure would be nice if we could put together a fucking defense.

10

u/Massive-Ask-6869 UConn Huskies 13h ago

Same

2

u/noodlesalad_ UConn Huskies 7h ago

Currently halftime between us. We are a combined 7 kenpom offense and combined 311 kenpom defense. And yet the halftime score is 32-25.

1

u/Camrons_Mink UConn Huskies 12h ago

No defense for you. Tonight we’ll simply stand in the ring throwing haymakers until one of us collapses.

16

u/King_Dead Louisville Cardinals • WKU Hilltoppers 14h ago

Technically upper-right quadrant! I'll take it!

40

u/danathecount UConn Huskies 14h ago

the line for Nova vs UConn tonight is 145.5. Seems low for two top offenses with bad defenses

43

u/okoios UConn Huskies • Northeastern Huski… 14h ago

Nova has the #345 tempo in the country and UConn has the #302 tempo, so these are both super efficient but slow offensive teams

4

u/danathecount UConn Huskies 13h ago

Ahhh good catch, that checks out

8

u/Lqtor Vanderbilt Commodores 14h ago edited 4h ago

However, whenever I decide to smash the over on these lines both teams ends up somehow put up their greatest defense of the year and drop absolute stinkers on offense

Edit: I FUCKING KNEW IT YOU AINT TAKING MY MONEY THIS TIME VEGAS

12

u/heel2014 North Carolina Tar Heels 13h ago

UNC is either tucked away neatly behind another team or didn't get invited 😅

12

u/ed42000 Duke Blue Devils 12h ago

Not invited? Like the 2023 NCAA tournament?

13

u/therylo_ken North Carolina Tar Heels 12h ago

We prefer to think about the previous tourney heheh

8

u/ed42000 Duke Blue Devils 11h ago

Well played haha. Enjoy your day Rylo Ken

1

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

We do that also but we go back two years

1

u/iEatPalpatineAss Duke Blue Devils 2h ago

u/therylo_ken, it seems you enjoy Star Wars.

We will watch your career with great interest.

1

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

Florida covering up on top of Michigan then Illinois then Iowa State and below that is a team with a red border but I can’t see who it is

1

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

Maybe Indiana?

1

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

No not them they’re on there. Oh this is gonna annoy the F out of me.

Clemson.. almost achieving mid perfection

35

u/Karltowns17 Kentucky Wildcats 14h ago

I didn’t even see Auburn for a Second they’re so far off to the side.

7

u/Yodelehhehe Iowa State Cyclones 11h ago

Auburn might be good

7

u/ralthea Arizona Wildcats 13h ago

I'm choosing to believe we're the team behind Florida

3

u/Elephantparrot Arizona Wildcats 12h ago

I think that's a good bet. I think it's Illinois under Michigan's and we're under Florida. It would be pretty consistent with where we've been rated on these all season, confusingly just outside the top teams.

2

u/rowdyginger05 Florida Gators • Ohio State Buckeyes 11h ago

Can we make that cluster of our teams an invitational or something? I would watch the hell out of that with the solid defense and strong offense. lol

1

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

That has to be it.

1

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

There’s another mystery team also with a red circle hiding under Texas A&M and Michigan State

6

u/ForLoopsElseIf Auburn Tigers 8h ago

Man watch us lose again in the first weekend

19

u/S_Dot_99 Jacksonville Dolphins 14h ago

Uconn is #2 in offensive rating

These grids are always off

12

u/ncaafan2 Florida Gators • Illinois Fighting Illini 13h ago

Clearly depends on the metric they are using, but the difference between 3-5 looks rather close

6

u/Only_the_Tip Iowa State Cyclones 13h ago

Stop covering up our logo.

5

u/iam_alittlestitious Seton Hall Pirates 12h ago

Offense is optional in South Orange

4

u/falconlover79 Georgia Bulldogs • Penn State Nittany Lio… 14h ago

Both my teams in the top right 🥹

2

u/TRJF Bucknell Bison 12h ago

Yep, Penn State in the top right quarter. Single tear falling from my eye - never thought I'd see the day.

3

u/yoloape Oregon Ducks • Maryland Terrapins 13h ago

Seeing the terps consistently have fairly good rankings in these types of graphs yet unable to hold on late in games is unbelievably frustrating

1

u/TraditionalBottle884 6h ago

Yeah, the talent is there, coaching is the issue. It's incredibly frustrating.

3

u/ridemooses Wisconsin Badgers 11h ago

3

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

I am happy we didn’t schedule Auburn.

3

u/ConsiderationOld9897 Auburn Tigers 7h ago

We're verry happy that we scheduled OSU and Purdue.

3

u/GoLionsJD107 Michigan Wolverines 7h ago

I’m happy you scheduled OSU

2

u/black-op345 Oregon Ducks • Sickos 14h ago

Yay! We’re In the good quadrant in this graph!

just barely

2

u/theymademegettheapp9 14h ago

Didn't need this to really know but, yep, Tang's Cats are no bueno.

2

u/CameronCoppen_ UConn Huskies 13h ago

Good golly the defensive drop-off without Clingan, Castle and Newton this year is insane. Idk about other UConn fans but I feel like our defensive rating would be at its best with Diarra, Solo, McNeeley, AK, and Reed as the starting lineup. In our game against Providence you could visibly notice the difference defensively when Reed was in the game.

Also, doesn’t help everyone we play goes berserk from three lmao.

2

u/DayManMasterofNight Michigan Wolverines 12h ago

We’re so back. Dusty is looking like a pretty solid hire thus far!

2

u/taddymason_01 Louisville Cardinals 11h ago

I would love to see where Louisville would be if they didn’t have all those injuries.

2

u/somethingworthwhile Illinois Fighting Illini 10h ago

Commented in another thread showing a similar plot, but man, the Illinois-Michigan game is going to be a battle!

Top 5 defense with an offense on par with the bottom half of the ACC. Buckle in boys. Might be a long ride.

1

u/bloomingtonrail Kentucky Wildcats • Eastern Wash… 13h ago

1

u/Sadlobster1 Pikeville Bears • Louisville Cardinals 13h ago

With an offense like that a defense like that - Miami getting knocked out in round 1 or getting hot and going to the FF

2

u/SquintsRS 9h ago

Miami isn't gonna get invited to a single postseason tournament. They're horrific

1

u/Sadlobster1 Pikeville Bears • Louisville Cardinals 9h ago

100% - I was trying to make a joke at their expense but it didn't land without tone.

Oh no! We stink! (Fire Grant I’m begging)

1

u/ranger684 Maryland Terrapins 12h ago
