That's a helluva court design

Tech bros won with this one…

Ouch, of both physical and emotional pain

I forgot about this court design. I still think it looks kinda cool.

Ya I’d rather designs go wild and look bad then boring and plain.

u/BB5Bucks Evansville Purple Aces 15h ago

I’m not usually one for the busy court designs but this one is really nice

Until you play at Oregon

11

u/ScrofessorLongHair Alabama Crimson Tide • Final Four 14h ago

Exactly what I immediately thought of. Oregon is the Boise St of college basketball.

10

u/Koppenberg Washington Huskies • North Park Vikings 14h ago

Was. They changed the floor to something that looks like a basketball court this year. I figure that's because the Big Ten front office gave them a little talking to.

u/DionBlaster123 Niagara Purple Eagles 14h ago

Wow...for once I can be positive about Oregon (and the other three) moving to the Big Ten.

It will never sit right with me to hear a broadcaster in the near future say, "Tonight's match-up, a THRILLING Big Ten showdown between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the USC Trojans!" What a fucking joke.

7

u/Huggly001 USC Trojans 13h ago

Why settle for the near future when you can go back and watch our football game in 2024 that kicked off at 8pm Pacific time on a Friday night?

u/ScrofessorLongHair Alabama Crimson Tide • Final Four 13h ago

That's why I wasn't too mad with the SEC additions. Good programs that aren't too ridiculous of a leap. Plus, they at least so border each other, without a crazy 1000+ mile gap between schools.

9

u/DionBlaster123 Niagara Purple Eagles 13h ago

Yeah that was whatever. I wasn't thrilled but whatever I wasn't going to lose sleep over it.

Fucking USC and Maryland in the same conference makes zero sense. And now California and Louisville are in the same conference despite neither of them being remotely close to the Atlantic Ocean (one of those teams literally being on the other fucking ocean).

Fuck all this stupid shit. I blame it on football more than anything. And now the dingalings in the media gaslighting us into saying that realignment is a "good thing." Fuck those people too.

4

u/ScrofessorLongHair Alabama Crimson Tide • Final Four 12h ago

It's completely insane with the acc. But I'm not surprised, since the ACC play Stanford/Cal were all desperate. But everyone knew what was gonna happen when they announced USC and UCLA moving to the Big 10.

It's why I wouldn't mind football separating from the NCAA, and doing their own thing. Then the conferences could return to being regional for all the other sports.

3

u/DionBlaster123 Niagara Purple Eagles 12h ago

Yeah football really just needs to become something separate entirely. The way it impacts all the other sports is just ridiculous.

Like on one hand I get it. No one is really going to go out of their way to watch crew or college golf. But this is just a moronic situation for everybody else.

And like I said, I can do without all the dorks and doofuses on ESPN forcefeeding us this crap and telling us that we're the assholes for not liking it.

3

u/ScrofessorLongHair Alabama Crimson Tide • Final Four 14h ago

I'll admit, the idea was cool. But in reality, it was fucking atrocious. It was like the communism of basketball courts.

Boise State is at least watchable. Oregon's was an affront to the sense of vision

1

u/WetDreaminOfParadise UConn Huskies • Rhode Island Rams 14h ago

Hot take but I like it. It’s ugly as shit no doubt, but I like the ugly.

2

u/dawidowmaka Illinois Fighting Illini • Cornell Big Red 13h ago

It was certainly unique

I just think you gotta pick a line. Go ultra traditional or ultra modern.

3

u/DionBlaster123 Niagara Purple Eagles 14h ago

This one is good because you can still kind of see what's going on and it's not distracting

Man some of the shit for the NBA Cup was fucking beyond obnoxious. Looked like bullshit from some late era Playstation 1 basketball game where they couldn't get the NBA rights so they had to do all sorts of weird gimmicks.

I like the design, but my issue is the blue is so dark it makes all the scuff marks really stand out and therefore a bit dirty at after a few minutes

I went to a CBA game in the mid '90s with my dad that got canceled because the floor crew did such a poor job switching things over from the AHL game the previous night and players and refs were slipping & sliding. Everyone was pissed cause Manute Bol was on the opposing team and hadn't entered the game (maybe cause he didn't want to slip and fall and make every SportsCenter bloopers compilation until this day. RIP big man).

I'm not sure if our local CBA team even made it a full season. I can't even find a WIkipedia entry for them!

u/uberkalden2 Syracuse Orange 15h ago

Shouldn't you get the ball back for something like that?

42

u/DionBlaster123 Niagara Purple Eagles 14h ago

Unfortunately rules are rules

Man if I was the coach of Utah State, I'd be boiling with rage. More importantly than losing a point, that could have seriously injured your player.

25

u/uberkalden2 Syracuse Orange 14h ago

Should be a rule that if the home team doesn't keep the court clean, when this happens the team with possession maintains possession

10

u/Maison-Marthgiela Illinois Fighting Illini • Loyola Ch… 12h ago

Yeah that seems like a perverse incentive if a team can lackadaisically mop one side of the court and force more turnovers. Not that it would happen often but the ones being punished when it does should be the hosts

4

u/ninetimesoutaten Clemson Tigers • Cornell Big Red 13h ago

When Clemson played Penn State, the court was incredibly slippery and had multiple incidents of players trying to stop and being unable to. The ref kept calling them for traveling and giving the ball to the opposing team.

u/uberkalden2 Syracuse Orange 11h ago

Insanity

3

u/Cordo_Bowl Marquette Golden Eagles 12h ago

There was a Marquette game at Providence where the floor was slippery because their ice rink is under their basketball court. There was so much slipping that the refs stopped calling traveling and allowed the affected team to just inbound the ball.

1

u/uberkalden2 Syracuse Orange 11h ago

Surprised they kept playing!

1

u/AsleepRefrigerator42 Pittsburgh Panthers 5h ago

In 2015, Pitt/Gonzaga played their season opener at an airbase in Japan. Game was called at half for a slippy floor. All that jet lag for what??

1

u/uberkalden2 Syracuse Orange 5h ago

I remember cuse playing on an aircraft carrier and the wind made it impossible to shoot.

It's a local broadcast SJSU team, whoever is the home team on MWN has a local broadcast team calling the game. Sometimes they're ok but usually they suck and hella biased. Though MWN is free and better than being on ESPN+ so it's hard to complain too much.

I hate the usu ones cause the one guy always talks about playing under Stew with Jaycee and can’t talk about anything else lol.
