It's on PS Plus this month
1
u/FusionTap May 29 '20
With none of the DLC
10
u/BeastRz May 29 '20
DLC is discounted and Green Cities is free last time I checked!
1
3
u/ivrt May 29 '20
It came with 2 and there were 2 more free since then already. What are you crying about?

u/PatacusX May 29 '20
Free? I played it on Gamepass and then had to pay for it after they took it off. I could have had it for free?

u/Sabs_cg May 29 '20
I thought I heard its going back on game pass
1
u/PatacusX May 29 '20
I'm not sure. I guess either way I have it now just in case

American-style cities can now have huge car parks wasting space aswell as motorways ripping through the heart of the city. It's gonna be great!
12
u/GuyverScythe May 30 '20
Can we also have depressing traffic, chain stores, and hopeless poverty near concentrated riches?
2
u/ArmchairCityPlanner May 30 '20
We've already had the freeways, as well as the ability to build a city without them first, then bulldoze to make way for them.
What's now missing is actual low-density zoning of the type used for postwar suburbs. In-game "low density" is closer to that of streetcar suburbs.
40
u/ExoskeletalJunction May 29 '20
Unironically thought this was a /r/shittyskylines shitpost about parking lots and everyone's cities being ultra american
13
u/Tobar_the_Gypsy May 29 '20
People want parking lots?
8
u/Fariic May 30 '20
Yes. Industrial and commercial centers tend to have more parking lots than actual buildings.
Ever actually look at a map of urban areas?
6
u/GlenCocoPuffs May 30 '20
I would have figured most people build optimistic/idealistic cities, not replicate the worst features of poorly planned US cities.
2
u/WordBoxLLC May 30 '20
Being that a lot of these are in modern, well planned suburban areas... what makes them "worst features of poorly planned US cities"? The lack of parking garages or mass transit?
5
u/GlenCocoPuffs May 30 '20
Lack of mass transit is a big one yeah. Parking is unproductive, environmentally degrading, causes the urban heat island effect, and artificially increases distances between the places people actually need to go. It forces places so far apart that people need cars to cover the distance, then they need a place to park, and the cycle continues.
Worst of all, much of the parking in the US is not even needed for practical reasons. Cities have mandatory parking minimums that require businesses to create arbitrary and inflated amounts of parking. The American landscape we’re used to seeing is a result of decades of poor planning and economics.
6
2
u/Fariic May 30 '20
So in an optimistic/ idealistic city everyone parks on the side of the street?
Or maybe people are actually building cities in the city building game, and efficient parking is actually a big part of how cities work.
Or is the problem that you’re on console so these kinds of mods that actually help to flesh out cities aren’t available to you?
3
u/GlenCocoPuffs May 30 '20
What part about the images above look efficient to you?
I like my CS cities like I like my real cities: bike lanes, trees, parks, mass transit, and dense neighborhoods.
13
u/keppsu May 29 '20
My mall needs this. I saw the previous post about these and have been postponing building it.
5
u/RobbStark May 29 '20
I've always wanted to build a mall or a real, functional shopping center of some kind. Do you use any specific assets and plop them manually, or just zone commercial?
3
u/keppsu May 29 '20
Previously I’ve used the parking lot roads mod and zoned commercial but I finally have a good mod setup and a city I really like so I was going to use modular shopping center from steam and zone some commercial with that.

3
u/RobbStark May 29 '20
That looks really cool!
Now we just need some parking garages that don't look like trash. I feel like there was a thread about that recently, maybe people posted links to some good suggestions in there.
1
u/keppsu May 29 '20
Yes. I know your pain. I am using some but don’t love any of them.
3
u/kingleno May 30 '20
i mean seriously, what's not to love about these?

Sony, please allow mods on console. This things look so cool
32
u/ARabidMeerkat May 29 '20
Mods won't happen for two simple reasons:
- Most consoles (except for Xbox One X) only have 8GB of RAM. This on PC with what we currently have for CS is just about enough to handle the game. The only way that we can get mods is if we get a serious upgrade to our RAM, which probably won't happen until the next generation of consoles.
- Sony needs to change their agreements to allow mods to come onto their console for their games. Xbox allowed some custom assets in CS that came from the PC version (and other games, such as Skyrim, got the same treatment too). However, this hasn't happened with Playstation due to the way Sony handles third party agreements.
However, I am putting together a list of feasible assets/tools in hopes that some traction can be made on modding in general for console on this subreddit:

u/HeyItsMeNobody May 29 '20
I play with a bunch of mods and only have 8GB ram, I think at least a few mods would be doable.
3
u/ARabidMeerkat May 29 '20
Would be doable, however, if you factor in all of the extra tools and assets that have come with every DLC and CCP, our consoles wouldn't handle it. After all, how many players on console (myself included) have ever said that their FPS doesn't start dropping once the population is 100k?
2
u/Skyline_BNR34 May 29 '20
Fallout 4 has mods on PS4. Was actually the first game to have them on PS4 IIRC.
3
u/mitzibishi May 29 '20
Basically they allowed cheats. Very basic stuff
1
u/Skyline_BNR34 May 29 '20
I know it’s basic stuff. It was a huge deal for Sony to even allow that is the biggest thing.
1
u/ARabidMeerkat May 29 '20
Granted it's a huge deal for Sony and would have been a good step in the right direction...
1
1
u/PresidentZeus May 30 '20
I think all content such as games and updates needs to be clarified for consoles. This would make it very difficult to have a similar library of mods as to what you can on PC.

u/Static1589 May 29 '20
Looking really awesome. Definitely going to give this a try.
Luckily I'm free from work on Monday because of Pentecost but you're really releasing this AFTER the weekend? 😝
1
u/ybtlamlliw May 29 '20
This sounds amazing. I find I'm often limited by Parking Lot Roads so this might be a game changer for Ploppable RICO areas.

Do parking lots impact the transportation network or are they purely aesthetic?
2
u/hockenheim95 May 29 '20
Cars can park there. With Traffic Manager you can force your cims to park there.

I'm new to CS. Do you actually see the cars coming and going from the parking lot? Like is it actually functional or just for show?
2
u/hockenheim95 May 29 '20
It is fully functional but you need Traffic Manager to force cims to actually park the car. Normally they just despawn
1
u/MrMattyMatt May 29 '20
Glad to see there are not dozens of random handicap spots throughout!
2
u/TheBelhade May 30 '20
I don't see *any* handicapped spaces. They should be up front closest to the stores, or the walkways.
1
u/TrickyLemons Ramps with realistic slopes! May 29 '20
Are they as easy to use as the parking lot roads? I hope it’s not like CSUR where it was too complicated for my small brain to comprehend.

Hello! So i dont really know how these mods work but does this affect the traffic in the city? Or like does the cars really interact with the lots that they park lot like normal? Thanks! :>
2
u/hockenheim95 May 30 '20
Cars use all lanes on the parking lots so yes they look really busy. But as soon as a car decides to park it just "flies" directly to the parking space for a few Seconds. That's the game mechanic

u/spike654 May 30 '20
Can it also be on elevated segments?
1
u/hockenheim95 May 30 '20
I thought about something elevated for a future expansion.
1
u/IIIRedPandazIII May 31 '20
Maybe a future expansion could also allow for parking structures?
1
u/hockenheim95 May 31 '20
Yes, I thought about that. Something like Parking Garage Streets. Should be a concept to proof.

Sorry, but why shouldn't this replace PLR?
1

There’s no reason you can’t use this instead of PLR
Edit: or with if you really want to

I am sorry for the short delay but I can proudly announce that BIG Parking Lots is going to be relased on Monday June 1st on Steam Workshop. It is a set of roads, parking spaces and networks that let you build parking lots of any size and shape you can imagine for your malls, industrial sites, downtown areas and more. There will be expansions for advanced players and detailers.
