I love St. Louis tbh. It always gets a bad rap. Actually living in the area you find out it's not nearly as horrible as what they show on the news

u/doom_bagel It isn't eminent domain if I already own the city Jan 19 '19
I miss living there. I'm looking to move back when I graduate from school.

I don’t live there, but I’ve visited. It’s only sketchy if you’re just outside of downtown. Then there’s East St. Louis, but that’s Illinois’s problem.

u/SparkyMcDanger Jan 19 '19
Ive only been two or three times but everyone Ive worked with thats been from there (Columbia so there's a lot of them lol) absolutely loves it and almost always moves back or to a surrounding town if their career paths allow

I was visiting my family from out of state during the Ferguson stuff a few years, and they kept asking me about my safety and thought the whole city was rioting and on fire.
For context to outsiders, the Ferguson protests were mostly contained to a small area and I lived about 30 minutes south of that and was affected in no way.
Apparently the national news didn’t portray us well.

Hey. God Bless ya. Could not have said it better myself. I have an immense amount of pride from where I’m from regardless of the Delmar line or racial tension whatever. Go birds.

95% sure that's the London Bridge, which is in Arizona.
(I was shocked when I learned the latter part is actually true)

u/libertybull702 Jan 19 '19
Lake Havasu (where the bridge is) is so nice. We take a trip down and rent a boat a couple times a year.

I’m so close to unlocking the Arch, but my biggest city has stopped growing and I can’t reach the 20,000 squares of commercial zone.

Didn’t know Saint Louis had an office park! I wonder if they were influenced by this game.
9
u/GracefulExalter Jan 19 '19
That's cool! I like St. Louis a lot. Reminded me of Detroit when I was there -- a lot of grit and soul, and a ton of new energy revitalizing the city.

Now you just need an Imo's pizza, some toasted ravs, a bottle of Schlafly, and a slice of gooey butter cake.

It's only like $12, so yeah. But it's actually closed right now due to the federal government shutdown.

Saint Louis is always in the state of misery
Get it
I live in Illinois it’s not much better here at all tbh
Except we can all agree no one from misery I mean Missouri can drive
1
u/PreciousRoi Jan 20 '19
But EVERYONE agrees that the first thing we all do when we hear there has been a half-inch of snow in Atlanta is run to the TV and tune in to nod knowingly at each other as the vehicular carnage unfolds.
IL side is strange...the shitholes are actually safer, IMO (this is offset by their having absolutely no redeeming values...there is no "good part", unless you count the parking lots associated with the casino), and it has some astonishingly rural (and safe/placid) areas mindbogglingly close to downtown STL.
1
Jan 20 '19
Yeah you got that right you Atlantans have zero idea what snow is lol. Springfield isn’t a terrible place.
1
u/PreciousRoi Jan 20 '19
I meant that ESL (and environs) has no "good parts" (contrasting to North City, which is the "bad part" of the larger STL city), not the IL side...Springfield is a bit further off than I was thinking...plenty of nice areas around the Metro East...you just have to go farther out if you're North...but its also more developed up there.

Won’t guess the name (in case I’m right) but pretty sure I grew up in that building you’re in. Nice and surprisingly to see something that familiar on reddit.

I visited St. Louis once. Flew in on a flight from D.C. Had a return flight scheduled 1 week later.
After 2 nights, I said to hell with the return flight. Hopped in a rental car and drove back to Northern Virginia.
Couldn't pay me to go back to that hell hole.
