All AP Voter Ballots - Week 4 Analysis
Week 4
This is a series I've now been doing for 8 years. The post attempts to visualize all AP Poll ballots in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.
The most consistent voter this week is Matt Murschel. Michael Katz is first on the season, followed by Shaun Goodwin, Blair Kerkhoff, Bill Oram, and Alex Taylor were behind him in the top 5.
At the other extreme, Jon Wilner was once again the biggest outlier this week. He is also the biggest outlier this season, followed by Dave Preston, Koki Riley, Greg Madia, and David Jablonski.

Honestly I wish more voters would have voted like that, we look like the 5th best team in the SEC right now who so happens to play 1-4, 3 on the road

Shocked the UW voter has us at 13 lmao

To be fair our games were on at the same time. So they missed our 35 point win in order to watch UW lose to WSU.

All of the voters that had us out of the top 10 are reporters for teams that hate us or SEC reporters. I'm glad these polls mean nothing with a 12 team playoff.

And the Boise State guy has us at 12 I believe. Like don’t they want their loss to Oregon to be a quality one? Makes no sense.

Lol Rece Davis beating the homer allegations putting Bama behind Penn State and Oregon.

I am unsure how you could watch our first three games and still rank us 11/12

I can live with it. I assume someone doing so is thinking "I don't really value NC State highly, so I don't think the Vols have been tested. If they do this to Oklahoma, they will jump." If they give us a nice boost if we win in Norman, it all evens out.

I apologize Shaun Goodwin, I was unfamiliar with your game.

Crazy, most voters would have some sort of bias, some of em have us as high as 16 or 17. Which is crazy, but our own writer has you ahead of us. Which I’m happy with where we’re at for now. 27 in AP is justified I feel.

Yeah that’s a tad aggressive, but I think anywhere from 12-15 is appropriate which is where most have us.

The only person who TOGA'd this week was Creg Stephenson.
Also, Chris Murray is a certified ball-knower of the highest order. He has reached levels of ball-knowing that no mere mortal could ever reach.

I know nothing about Randy Johnson or the Minneapolis Star Tribune but this man is my hero, dude's had USC in the top five all season so far

u/Squirrel_Q_Esquire Ole Miss Rebels • Billable Hours Sep 16 '24
Jon Wilner had Ole Miss at #9 last week. We then go on the road and blow out an admittedly mediocre Wake Forest…and he drops us to #11.
His “biased towards Miss State” is starting to make a lot of fucking sense.

We’re still letting Jon Wilner vote…? Woof

The Nebraska voter has the closest to correct better, I would swap Michigan and Nebraska (moving Nebraska up.)

I’ve never heard of Bob Ballou but his rankings are pretty on-line with what I think. 1. Georgia 2. Ohio state 3. Texas. He has 4 as Oregon which id probably put them 5 with Alabama at 4.
