Finance Internship

Hey Reddit,

I have an interview coming up for the Blue Origin Finance Intern position, and I’m both excited and nervous! I’d really appreciate any advice from those who’ve been through similar interviews or work in the field.

Specifically, I’m wondering:

  • What kind of questions should I prepare for? Are they more focused on technical skills, behavioral questions, or a mix of both?
  • For technical topics, what should I focus on? (e.g., financial modeling, variance analysis, Excel, etc.)
  • Any tips for standing out as a candidate?
  • Is there anything specific about Blue Origin I should know to make a strong impression?

I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially on what technical skills/topics I should brush up on beforehand. Thanks so much for your help! 🚀

You're interviewing for an intern position, so they're expecting to train you, not that you're an expert on everything.

Try to stand out from the crowd, so tell them about something extracurricular that you do which you're passionate about (but don't go on about it too much).

Be concise in your initial answers to questions, and ask if they want you to elaborate on anything.

If they ask you about something you don't know, say so; don't blather. You can pivot to something related. If there's a formula you'd use and you don't have all the details, say "it's something like this, but obviously I'd look it up".

Do your best to relax.

You're also interviewing them. Be prepared with questions you want to know the answers to.

I've never worked at Blue, but I've been on hiring committees and done my share of interviewing candidates.
