how do i know if berries have gone bad?

Post image

last week i wanted to take some to school (but ended up not eating them), and forgot them in my bag for i think a few days..

they look fine, are still crunchy but i think the taste is more sour (and the scent is strong, but not bad strong it smells really good actually) then it used to be. i don’t know, are they safe to eat?

They look fine. Give them a wash and enjoy. You'll know they're off if they're overly sqishy or slimy, and this will be obvious before you out them in your mouth.

They look fresh to me. If they're not moldy or breaking down into goo, they should be fine.

Trust your instincts. Safe.

If you put your ear close to them and can hear them hurling swears and insults you know they’ve gone bad

Watch out for tiny switchblade knives and tiny cigarette lighters.

Where the stem used to attach will be the first place to mold, otherwise they will be very soft.

If not, good to go

Are they moldy? Are they rotting? No? Then good to eat.

Fuzzy white mold or leakage of juice , slime or white mold in general 😭 but if u add water to it the white mold “disappear”

So realistically, you’re aiming for just past firm, but not squishy or slimy. On the softer side. Also note, if they do happen to go a little over and start getting wrinkly, I like to use them to make a fruit compote. Ripened berries, splash of lemon juice, some sugar, and boom! Quick berry compote

Don’t eat them. Those are clearly evil berries.

Berries get fungus on the outside FIRST.

SPECIFICALLY BLUE BERRIES. Look at where the stem goes. The first thing I see on a bad berry is a white spot there. That is fungus.

The berry may taste OK, but 24 hours from now it will not.

I toss my blueberries when they either are wrinkled and or getting hard or if they have mold growing on them

Bad blueberries taste like dirt.

Grapes start to develop tiny almost pinhole 📍 sized dots on them when they're starting to turn. Haven't bought blueberry in a while sadly. I definitely need to.

If they aren’t mushy and wrinkly then they’re okay

They start hanging out with an older, rougher crowd that you've never seen before
