Hey I need help understanding what this ball is
This is the inside of it,its outside is red like a shell,also it's from texas

looks like hackberry to me

I looked that up,but I can't find out if hackberry has yellow insides,or grows incredibly tall,this tree is like at least 2 stories tall

As a professional wildlife biologist, I am certain that this is a hackberry tree. (Admittedly, there are a couple of varieties, but I never quite got the hang of differentiating them.)The pits aren’t edible to humans, but you can suck the little bit of fruit off the outside. (Not worth the effort, imo.) These look a little on the unripe side, they turn a deep burgundy/purple. You can tell that you have a rodent infestation if you find little stashes of the crinkly white pits.

How about some leaves, or photos of more branches with the berries still on and the entire plant?

Do you have any examples of it on the tree/bush it came from? Much easier to identify something if we can see the leaves, etc.
