Emulating

Can you emulate through RetroArch on a console? Is there a computer emulator that’s recommended?

What's with people nowadays who can't Google these things before asking?

Anyway, retroarch only has the Virtual Jaguar Core, which is in no way as comprehensive or fast as BigPEmu. The problem with BigPEmu is, is that it's a closed source emulator, separate from Retroarch. (It was developed by Rich Whitehouse for Digital Eclipse for the Atari 50 collection, it was either released closed source, or not at all. So in my book, Mr Whitehouse is a bonified Jaguar hero). So, you are best off emulating the Jag outside of Retroarch using BigPEmu, it's available for Windows, Linux, and iOS, no Retroarch core.

I actually did do a google search and found conflicting information. There was some saying that you can use Retroach and a Reddit post saying you couldn’t. The page on the emulator wiki didn’t help either.

Well, now you know. You can use retroarch, but you really have to wonder if you should ;)

RA on ios doesnt have the atari jaguar core so i use BigP which was ported to ios about a month ago👌

Dev is very responsive and supportive of his creation which is great & it runs well enough with energy saving mode enabled by default now. Recommend if youre on ios.

What is stopping you from getting BigPEmu?

It is by far the most accurate and up to date emulator that came out 2 years ago (damn 2 years already?), although there are some things that you need to know before using it. Last time I checked, the annoying glitch that distorts the screen horribly whenever you finish a round in Val d’Isere Skiing & Snowboarding hasn’t been resolved yet, and some timing inaccuracies still need to be addressed (especially in Doom). However, the important thing is that every game is playable, including Jaguar CD games which were previously not possible to emulate until BigPEmu started supporting them. Also, I have read from a user on here that not all of the homebrew software is playable on the emulator, but take that with a grain of salt because that might not be true.

Probably the platform availability. I don’t have a PC really.
