I feel like the initial point is it's normal to run even when you're not in a hurry, because, yes, it's a normal human function.

My girlfriend has been dragging me around the mall for hours, I am not walking up the magic stairs

Agreed. I was always under the impression that they're suppose to make it easier and faster for you to get up the "stairs" Not to give you a free ride.

Just like how airports have moving walkways. Its not for you to stand on. Its to help you walk faster!

While I don't disagree with you on the running side, cumming on a doorknob is a "normal human function," so I'm not sure that's the best reasoning.
