Must be my inner redneck showing that I never heard of anyone thinking poorly of a cold beer after hard yardwork.

cold beer after during hard yardwork.

Fixed that for ya.

I always pregame yardwork

10

u/CoutolencRoad Jul 13 '15

And that's why my trees are all pruned crooked.

3

u/saliczar Jul 14 '15

Put your left shoe back on.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '15

Man Friday afternoons I fire down a few tall boys before I even touch my lawnmower. I cut my grass on Thursday last week without drinking, and god damn that took forever.

3

u/Hiei2k7 Jul 14 '15

True story. I'm post-gaming my yardwork right now.

2

u/Radeon3 Jul 14 '15

Usually just turns into video games. Farm Simulator FTW.

14

u/bastardblaster Jul 13 '15

That defined what I looked for in a riding mower. Cutting area? Don't care. Turning radius? Nope. Cup holder? Sold.

7

u/knitwasabi Jul 13 '15

BF had to buy a new mower this year.

"So, what's it like? Powerful? Does it cut better?"

"IT HAS A CUP HOLDER!!!!"

I'm thinking "When on earth did you ever put down your beer anyway?"

25

u/chosenignorance Jul 13 '15

It's not for putting your beer down, it's to have another on stand by.

6

u/Kenny__Loggins Jul 13 '15

This man knows.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

You put your beer down?

1

u/bastardblaster Jul 14 '15

Tight turns are easier with two hands.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Hank Hill would like a word with you.

1

u/Zaev Jul 14 '15

I don't get drinking while mowing. Too much dust ends up airborne, and I really wouldn't wanna drink that.

7

u/Shadowex3 Jul 13 '15

that's how you get a nickname like stumpy.

17

u/wirsteve Jul 13 '15

I'm sure I am preaching to the choir.

In the event I'm not...

The key is to do all power tool work first. Wake up, have breakfast, then do any hedge-trimming, weed-whacking right away. If the task needs a chainsaw, do that too. That way, you can drink during the other tasks. The ones that won't scar you for life.

Say, laying down sod, pavers, things like that.

If math tought me anything, it was "order of operations"

7

u/turnsfast Jul 13 '15

Found the engineer. I'm with you 100%.

2

u/Kenny__Loggins Jul 13 '15

What does that have to do with being an engineer?

7

u/halfdeadmoon Jul 13 '15

You drink after you drive the train

3

u/Kenny__Loggins Jul 13 '15

lol I assumed he meant the type of engineer who does math and whatnot.

1

u/Stoic_stone Jul 13 '15

that was the joke, yes.

1

u/Kenny__Loggins Jul 13 '15

Stoic as always.

5

u/turnsfast Jul 13 '15

It's the methodical thought proccess. Engineers are trained to think things through. Not everyone does that.

5

u/Stoic_stone Jul 13 '15

I thought things through long before I was an engineer

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Some are trained to think that way, and some are born into it. Similar with law.

1

u/Kenny__Loggins Jul 13 '15

I'm an engineering student, but I don't really think it's too hard to think through doing hard work first and then the less demanding stuff later.

1

u/turnsfast Jul 13 '15 edited Jul 16 '15

You would think so, but that has not been my experience. I'm in construction /sales. When I sit down with potential customers, I can pick out the engineers within few minutes by the questions they ask. Most people are operating on emotion and ego.

2

u/Kenny__Loggins Jul 13 '15

I can definitely see you picking up on it in those situations.

3

u/Shadowex3 Jul 13 '15

And then you wind up with the driveway half covered in sod and the pavers that look like somebody dumped a bunch of tetris pieces on your lawn.

1

u/Stoic_stone Jul 13 '15

all sharp power tool work! Drills are fine

1

u/craigmontHunter Jul 14 '15

So mixing roofs, chainsaws, weed eaters, lawnmowers and ladders after a 2-4 was a bad idea last weekend?

6

u/thatdude52 Jul 13 '15

tried mowing the lawn while drinking a beer, ended up drinking a 12 pack and falling asleep in my porch swing after.... when I woke up I looked at the lawn and my lines were all sorts of fucked up

3

u/Kepgnar Jul 13 '15

cold beer during while avoiding yard work.

fixed that for ya.

1

u/Agent_Kid Jul 13 '15

My lawn tractor comes with a "cup holder" that perfectly fits a 12oz beer. Coincidence I think not!

1

u/dayblow Jul 13 '15

Fuckin a!

1

u/sameasaduck Jul 13 '15

Yep. We had a big lawn growing up, so dad would hop on the riding lawnmower with a nice cold beer. By about halfway though he would reach the corner of the fence, where he had strategically pre-placed a second beer to get him through the rest of the mowing.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

never stays cold, does it?

1

u/wirsteve Jul 13 '15

It's like 98.6 degrees in my belly. So I would say it warms up pretty fast.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Just make sure you're not on a riding mower. OWI/DUI risk

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Ah, drunken lawnmowing. My favorite hobby.

1

u/DAHMON Jul 13 '15

FTFY, it makes sense now! Thank you so much.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '15

Got two cords of wood to split? Call over some buddies, get a case of brew, and you've got a good day ahead of ya

1

u/cerebralshrike Jul 14 '15

Cold beer instead of yardwork.

1

u/evilbrent Jul 14 '15

I bought a house off a bloke which had a huuuuge back lawn. Guy had a big ride on mower to mow it. I asked him how long it took to mow that bit: "uhhh, about two beers?"

Blokes up in the bush measure time in beers.

3

u/goldenelephant45 Jul 13 '15

Yeah but when do you finish a hard job before noon?

6

u/Made_Just_For_Youuu Jul 13 '15

Early risers do this daily.

3

u/Tumblr_PrivilegeMAN Jul 13 '15

When you work outside in Florida and you start at 6 AM. I worked concrete jobs that had to finish before noon because the heat of the day would fuck up how the mix would set.

1

u/goldenelephant45 Jul 13 '15

Oh I used to work near Jacksonville so I know all about working in that Florida sun!

1

u/Jay_Train Jul 13 '15

Uh, anybody who lives in midwest/south. It is currently 101 degrees. Oy was 86 at sun up and 93 when my man chores were done today. So, the answer is anyone anywere hot that isn't a giant boob.

1

u/Torquelewith12 Jul 13 '15

An ice cold Shiner Blonde after working my ass off outside? Hell yeah

1

u/JurassicArc Jul 13 '15

I ran a marathon yesterday. First thing I did after I crossed the line and got my medal was break open a cold beer and smoke a cigarette.

1

u/rmoss20 Jul 13 '15

Must be my inner redneck showing that I never heard of anyone thinking poorly of a cold beer after hard yardwork.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '15

First for everything, I spend all weekend outside in my garden, ect. Not a beer or any alcohol in the house. I like Mellow Yellow and gatorade :)

1

u/Shadowex3 Jul 14 '15

at the same time?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '15

non-redneck, we hire rednecks to mow our lawns for $20

I kid, I kid.

1

u/Eight43 Jul 14 '15

I must be a redneck. yardwork = beer.

I'm a programmer and it's the same with us. A lunch beer after a solid morning programming (lunch being 1pm-ish usually) isn't unheard of. Not common, but also not frowned upon.
