It’s probably safer now than it was then. People are just more easily scared by media hysteria

Really? I see so many things happening on the streets, even without the media talking about it... Speaking for myself, I used to go out in the morning and only come back home at night, and nothing ever happened.
These days, even in neighborhoods that used to be quiet, there’s always something going on right around the corner...
But I get it, the media just wants to sell these days...

Statistically, every violent crime is WAY down, like 50%-75% of the 1990s rates.

Depending on where you live you might not be imagining things. Crime is not equally distributed equally and it’s entirely possible that your area is actually worse than it used to be.

Nationwide that is not the trend though. Assuming you’re in the US
