If its single book its blood meridian. But if a series counts its lotr no contest

Wanted to like that book. Loved The Road and respect him as a writer. But I only understood about 1/3 of Blood Meridian. Couldn’t really tell you what the plot was about and didn’t connect with any of the characters. My ignorance, not his brilliance as a writer.

I feel the same way as you. Sometimes even great books don’t click with everyone.

I agree the writing style makes it so weird lol and it can be a tough one. Its like experiencing someone else's fever dream

You had to immerse yourself in the narrative in order to truly appreciate it. It reminded me of reading Thomas Hardy for the first time. I was just scratching my head until I had a go when I was in the right mindset.

I may try to give it another go. Perhaps everything will click on a second reading. Having a dictionary nearby to help define his brilliant and often obscure vocabulary may also be helpful.
