Bladder snail. Harmless algae and detritus eaters. Won't eat healthy plants, and only reproduces heavily if you have a lot of dead plants or overfeed your fish. Good at turning algae and detritus into plant fertilizer.
Self fertilizing hermaphrodites, so you only need one to get a nice little colony started to help keep algae under control.

you shouldn't be unless you want to stop the invasion now. but my tank is infested with bladder snails, and besides aesthetics there's nothing wrong with them. i'm sure they're helping out somehow, plus it's kind of entertaining to watch them ascend from the ground to the top like they're being abducted, and walk upside down on the surface of the water.

i don’t want it to be infested because i only have a 5.5 gal, should i set up a new tank and move him and any others to it once it’s cycled?

yep. because one will turn into hundreds in no time at all. eggs take only days to hatch. so if you have one, you have hundreds. if you don't want them in a tank you need to remove any snails and eggs ASAP or they'll become unmanageable in the blink of an eye. i've given up getting rid of them, it's never going to happen.

what do their eggs look like so i can be sure??

small clear jelly sacs with smaller clearish dots in them. the bigger and more opaque the dots are, the closer they are to hatching.

do they have any negative effects on the tank or beta fish? since its a 5.5 gal idk

nope. if anything, they improve the water quality by eating everything that's not poop; leftover food, melted plant leaves, general detritus, etc etc. and they're so small that any waste they produce is negligible and basically canceled out by anything they eat. they'll reproduce to fit the container, it's not like you'll have every surface covered in snails. i've got a ton because it's a 36 gallon but id be shocked if i had more than 200 in there. it just looks like a lot because they converge during feeding. i'm not sure how true it is, but i've heard people have success training their bettas to eat pest snails. you have to crush them against the glass or something and drop them from the top like regular food. eventually the betta will get the message and hunt them. that's the idea anyway.

i see i see.. so in general, i dont really have a lot to worry? like im not gonna have like 1836283782 snails covering every wall because thats how people had me worried. like it’s a 5.5 gallon and the way people were describing it is like every surface would be covered. i’m home now and i see 3, 1 egg 😭

I learned last night that snails like watermelon rind even more than cucumber. My rams and bladders went right past the cuke. You can't see the watermelon rind anymore, it's ridiculous.
