Alan Wake kinda got me a job General
Just wanted to share that I was unemployed and last week I made a job interview for a big software company here in my country, during it one of the girls asked me if I played any games and I started talking about Alan Wake and she was super into it too and gave me some extra points for it.
Today I got a call and I got the job! One of the things she mentioned was a standout from the other candidates was how well I kept important details in mind and that she loved Alan Wake lol
That's it, I am super happy and will be going through a second playthrough of the first game asap!

Interviews are usually more about if you can get along with the team. Looks like you did it.

Exactly! I have been doing a few and after I became more comfortable and easygoing with it I had better results. Plus the team I will be working with as an intern is full of nerdy girls like me so I guess that was a huge factor as well. If I could give advice to anyone looking for a job it would be to make the interview go more like a casual conversation and less like some sort of decisive moment that you are not allowed to fail.

This is honestly can be quite decisive, so much that I'm consciously name dropping games/manga in my resume or in the background of my room when I get an interview lol

This reminds me when I displayed my neurodivergent dominance by hijacking the main ad agency television during an internship and forced everyone in the program to play alan wake in like 2014 (I did not get that job)
2
u/Telvanni_Mushroom Parautilitarian Mar 15 '24
You should have gotten the job! The fun part about being neurodivergent is loving things so much it makes you forget life troubles

Good for you.
But also, a woman gave you a chance. Not a girl. Unless you imply she was childishly foolish to do so.
I hope you perform.
3
u/angelic_penguin_ Mar 14 '24
op is a woman don't look for offense where there is none intended
-1
u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 14 '24
If you ask me, a human should view a girl or a boy as someone +/- 12 years old.
Teen is a teen.
Youth is 17-19.
OP works as a human adult, no?
3
u/angelic_penguin_ Mar 14 '24
you're splitting hairs, op refers to herself and other women as girls, it's not a big deal. you knew what she meant so the word was fine to get the point across. nobody likes having their language policed, especially when they haven't said anything false or harmful
0
u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 14 '24
I have a suspicion men in OP hiring process are not "boys."
But OP can tell us about boys in their hiring process.
If i was the "girl" giving OP the chance, I would view her less well should I know I was not viewed as such, and not a hiring manager.
3
u/angelic_penguin_ Mar 14 '24
it for real doesn't matter nearly as much as you want it to. there was pretty clearly no personal offense meant, you're like a middle school teacher correcting a kid asking if they can go to the bathroom with "may you go to the restroom". yeah one's more proper but you're kinda out of line for correcting someone where no correction was needed
0
u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 14 '24
You will never address your benefactor as girl in real life, will you?
3
u/angelic_penguin_ Mar 14 '24
depends, are we close? do i feel comfortable around them, and have they requested me to call them anything otherwise? besides, i'm not a woman myself and probably wouldn't feel comfortable calling any something so familiar, but op is a different person. it's not the point regardless, i'm saying it's weird for you to make a thing of something harmless like op using a common word
i get the feeling you think it's some sort of belittling thing for women, but i am 99.999% sure op is just talking casually and you're reading into it
0
u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 15 '24
You are calling a purported hiring manager a "girl" here.
But of course "the girl" set herself for failure when she prioritised gaming preference as criterion for employment.
3
u/angelic_penguin_ Mar 15 '24
cool off, it's a normal word that normal people use every day. i've taken your bait so far but i'm tired of you refusing to acknowledge a word i've said and won't be engaging further. i hope you have a great rest of your day and would appreciate it if you spent less time criticizing a random girl's word choices when they harm nobody

I literally went through tests since it is a technology job that requires skills, which I outperformed in all of them. The gaming preference was just a fun part. I really think you should try not being so rude about these things, I call women around me 'girl' as a nice and affectionate way, and I like being called a girl myself as I find the term 'woman' too formal sometimes, same goes to calling men, well, men, I just call them guys cause it is more casual.

I use the term girl mostly due to habit, I don't think it is a childish term (English is not my first language), but thanks!
-6
u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 14 '24
Were there any "boys" in your hiring process, then?
5
u/Telvanni_Mushroom Parautilitarian Mar 14 '24
Yes :)
-4
u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 14 '24
Tell us about the boys. And why you don't want to call these adults "hiring managers"?
6
u/Telvanni_Mushroom Parautilitarian Mar 14 '24
I think you are overreacting about my terminology so I won't be answering such a strange questions, as I said english is not my first language which means I don't have such a technical terms in mind all the time. Still, thanks for the encouragements and hope you have a lovely day.

u/No-Royal-8309 Mar 15 '24
A "girl" would prioritize gaming preference for gaming opportunity, I am sure. Enjoy your job, of course.
