Look at how genuinely happy Porretta seems to be there! He's such a huge part of these games, he deserves just as much acknowledgement.

David Harewood too, that man’s smile is contagious!!

u/KingpinCrazy Dec 09 '23
Honestly, his performance in the game was a highlight of its own. Such an amazing actor!

u/Guy-Inkognito Dec 08 '23
I needed this post to realize that he's not only Wake but also Darling 🤯

u/Bob_Jenko Old Gods Rocker Dec 08 '23
Yeah, it's so cool!
Sam said that he was cast as Darling and Ilkka as Zane because he wanted them each to have a character that was fully "theirs" given they're a combo as Alan.
3
u/Mummelpuffin Dec 09 '23
...Oh, Ilkka voices Zane? I had no idea
3
u/Bob_Jenko Old Gods Rocker Dec 09 '23
Yeah! I didn't until I read an article just before AW2 came out.
Though it's most likely obvious, specifically he voices/plays him in Control and AW2. James McCaffrey did Zane's voice in AW1.

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Dec 08 '23
This is embarrassing for me to admit, but at first I thought Vince Gilligan played Dr Darling 😂

Having only just realized this a month or so before aw2 came out I feel ya. However I also didn't realize Poretta actually played the character with darling as opposed to only voicing it with wake. I thought he played both for some reason and they just did a really good job making him look different as darling 😆

Everyone seems so passionate about this project. It's enough to make a grown man emotional lol

u/fireguyV2 Dec 09 '23
He's probably happy that he's having the opportunity to sing as he's a classically trained vocalist/singer.

I low-key hope the Final Draft mentions this, even in passing

Sad that Melanie Liburd is missing knowing that she was at the awards, but an awesome pic regardless!

I dunno if she plays games, (or, like, I know lots of actors that don't like watching their own work, or maybe it's not her genre) and so I actually wonder if she knew about Herald of Darkness before they performed it.
Personally, if I was Melanie, the moment I saw Herald of Darkness for the first time I would be hunting down Sam Lake DEMANDING my own musical number in the DLC or a sequel.
If Courtney Hope or Shawn Ashmore saw last night they might be calling him too.
And, heck, maybe James McCaffrey, Sam is only half of Max Payne, afterall.

u/benjyk1993 Dec 08 '23
I don't think my little heart could handle Courtney Hope doing a dance number.

I remember reading somewhere that Melanie had played Remedy games before being cast as Saga. Can't find the exact reference right now, though. I'd think she'd want to play AW2 as well, given that background.EDIT: Scratch that, I was thinking of Janina Gavankar, who plays Kiran Estevez. She's on record about being a gamer and having played Control prior to her role in AW2. Which might not be surprising, as she was connected with the Quantum Break production as well. So I don't actually know about Melanie and games.

Dude, I'd be so down for Max Payne 4.
It's not like Rockstar would ever do that, but they have been weirdly cool with Remedy remaking Max Payne 1 and 2 (I'll believe it when I see it).
21
u/HatchlingChibi Dec 08 '23
I think this pic is just for the singers/band in the musical number. Melanie is in some of the other pics I've seen of the night!
7
u/Scion95 Dec 08 '23
I mean, Sam's not in the pic. And Ikka wasn't one of the singers, or in the band.
20
u/Bob_Jenko Old Gods Rocker Dec 08 '23
I think they mean this is of the main "performers" of Herald of Darkness, which perhaps wouldn't include Sam given he was only in the last chorus but would include Ilkka given he's the centrepiece of the choreography.

Thank you, this is what I meant but I don’t think I worded it very good.

Good grief, Olli's got such a strong jawline it could cut diamonds. Love this picture so much!

u/abonnett Dec 08 '23
But only if those diamonds are tears.

I ALMOST edited my comment to say something like that, but I'm glad someone else did, haha!

Sorry, spelled Balder wrong, haha. His character's name is Bob Balder in-game

My love for Ilkka Villi and Sam Lake is becoming unhealthy. I cried during the song show at TGA.
Seeing the singer of Poets of the Fall for the very first time also... What a moment it was.

I feel the same emotions as you. They are so wholesome together. I wish I was friends with all of them and could hug them once.

You haven't played AWII I assume?

u/theuntouchable2725 Old Gods Rocker Dec 08 '23
I reached that part and I was crying the whole time. The Door signing at you where to go, Ilkka Villi dancing with revolver and flashlight. Was such a blast. Even as a FromSoftware fan, I didn't feel any of this playing through Elden Ring.
I'm so glad I decided to build a PC after 10 years. (got back a year and a half ago)

u/benjyk1993 Dec 08 '23
Also a diehard FromSoft fan, and while I love love love their games, I just feel so much more emotion connected with everyone in Alan Wake. Only exception might be AC6, I actually had some really emotional moments in that game that were close to Alan Wake levels.
24
u/JulPollitt Dec 08 '23
Wait a fucking second. Are Ilkka’s shoes in this pic canon???
25
u/Chemical-Fig8613 Dec 08 '23
Pretty sure he wears those in the game during all the Herald of Darkness footage. I assume it's for dancing purposes but not sure.

Only one is missing and that is Lance Riddick, RIP. If he was still alive, he would have been the best actor for warlin door, in the ending of Quantum break he becomes a shifter and it would be cool to see him in dark place shifting through time and place.

I'm only just realizing that the Andersons actually look like super old versions of Marko and Olli.

Brilliant!
Also, hoping we get more Warlin Door x Saga Anderson exposition.
