What's the point of having "FU money" if you never say "FU" to your resale value.
If I ever need a 3rd vacation home just for psychedelic tirps, this is on the short list...

I really dig it. Someone weird has a lot of money. I would take it over a posh proper house.

Yeah, I'm sick of all the greige decor. Houses are meant to be lived in
82
u/mattwopointoh 10d ago
Honestly staying here would make me feel comfortable almost instantly. Idk who the owners are, but I feel like they would treat you like family as a guest.
22
u/attacklibrarian 10d ago
Right? As soon as I saw it, I immediately started imaging what it must be like to be in a position to be at that house for any period of time as a guest. Much less own it, haha!

Hah no, but one of my father's favourite "jokes" is about how you never buy beer, you only rent it

A little overboard for my taste, but I still love it.

Yeah, I think I'd find it overstimulating. Or something. Just looking at the photos, my feeling was how overwhelmingly *busy* it all looked.

u/OkiDokiPanic 7d ago
Same. I can see how someone would love this, but this house's bathrooms aren't even a little peace.

I'm here for the viking table and making your home a happy place for you. The world is already filled with joyless ghouls who don't know how to enjoy the wealth they have. Why be one of them?
1
u/_ParadigmShift 10d ago
If it’s this persons jam, I’m not going to take it away from them at all.
That doesn’t mean I have to praise it for high style though.

Okay but I LOVE that Viking ship table though. I also kind of like the balcony with the tree motif.

u/Silverback_Vanilla 10d ago
Without looking I knew it was in Florida and based of cost I would have guessed boca.
16
8
u/chantillylace9 10d ago
Really???? I thought the complete opposite, I was absolutely shocked it was in Boca because everyone is so prim and proper and concerned about their appearance.
40
u/sanitarySteve 10d ago
nah, this is fun. this person knows what they wanted and went for it. not personally my style but i think it looks better than some cold white minimalist hellscape so many houses are these days
33
u/dpman48 10d ago
I want to emphasize. There’s a LOT of great design choices in this house. And some really cool ideas that may be of not your taste, but NOT bad taste. The problem is, somebody literally could not stop hanging shit and laying more tile. The outside is actually a fun design because they CANT just keep putting more crap on the walls. They have to restrain themselves a bit. This house could keep a lot of this theming and look awesome if they just took half the stuff on the walls out.
31
u/scrambledeggsandrice 10d ago
If that’s a slide in the second photo, I’m in.

Wayyyy better than minimalist houses, at least this one has personality even if that personality is bring obnoxious it's better than being soulless.

This isn't a house; this is a Lair.
eta: anyone catch the room furnished with at least seven copies of Rudolf Steiner's Life Between Death and Rebirth?
4
u/DisposableJosie 9d ago
Yeah, it looks like it was designed by a supervillain who is half Emo Philips and half Casanova Frankenstein.
16
u/ButteredPizza69420 10d ago
This is what I expect someone with a personality to decorate like. Unlike other rich people where its all white and soulless

Literally just commented on the r/ZillowGoneWild post, that this is the EPITOME of r/ATBGE. Then I open the sub, and this is on top.
Also definitely belongs on r/Maximalism, if you’re one of the people who loves this place, then you might belong on that sub.
edit: then I open r/Maximalism, and it’s on top of that sub too. 😂

Money can’t buy taste. Some of the stuff is cool, but all together it hurts my brain.
2
u/Upsideduckery 10d ago
I house sat for a very wealthy couple who decorated their home in a way similar to this. It was all so creative. I had an absolutely magical time and sort of felt like a fairy princess.
However, in terms of my own home, not only am I poor but my adhd and autism require me to go as minimal as possible just to keep it clean... And to not be hopelessly overwhelmed.🤦
2
u/Repulsive-Tea6974 10d ago
I like it. I do kinda feel like I’d lose my keys or wallet for six months if I put them down in the wrong place though.

This place looks like 15 different small town Mexican restaurant owners designed it.
2
u/corran450 9d ago
That is the most Florida edifice I’ve ever seen. That said, it’s not that awful. I’d just need to take one of those rooms and paint it taupe, with a beige couch and white noise machine. For when I need to get away

I like the fish pool, and the slide looks fun. If I can afford this house, I can afford people to clean it for me.
Lots of stuff to look at, it's like they went to a 90's restaurant style decor.

u/_ParadigmShift 10d ago
It’s terrible, but at the same time if we found this house as archeologists 2000 years from now its would be a marvel. Many of these elements are not great smashed together, but that is the theme of the subreddit. It’s not poorly done, it’s just a creative mess without theme or commonality.
1
u/Beard_of_Valor 10d ago
why did they even put stickers on the toilet
I mean it'd look even more ridiculous if the toilet was the only thing they didn't unnecessarily embellish, what with the "drunken people crossing" and "warning: fart zone" posters
just that dining table alone is ATBGE and I kind of love it with my bad taste
My thoughts are absolutely swirling.

No this is dope. People should make their homes match their style if they have the money. So many homes have been stripped of their unique characteristics to just be painted a boring white or grey inside. I’d like to imagine this is an eccentric middle-aged swinger couple’s house that the husband lets his kooky wife decorate.

This is so much better than all those "nice" rich people houses- all sterile white and silver, no personality, no sign a person even lives there. Fuck the resale value, if I have FU money I'm not worried about a quick sale- it'll either stay in the family, can wait for the right buyer, or I'd donate it to be an orphanage or something.
1
u/sermer48 10d ago
Idk I kinda like it and has a similar vibe to what I’m planning if I can ever buy a home. My idea is basically murals on the walls giving each room a vibe(jungle, deep sea, outer space, etc.)
If I had a bunch of money my house would probably look similar to this 😂

Sensory wise, I’d get super overwhelmed in this house, but I love it. It has so much more personality than the beige or all white typical rich persons house. And who needs resale value if you have money to make your house fabulous?

u/erebus7813 10d ago
Another bad take on a house that actually has some personality. I would love to meet the owner.

Okay. Hear me out. This is basically Pee-Wee's mansion. This would be sweet as hell if you didn't give a shit. Like, slides down the stairs? Viking ship table? A tree in a stairwell?

A maximalist wonderland with a THEME. I love.
I too, would have a gaudy, custom-everything house if I had that kind of FU money.

I like all the mosaic tile used in the house. Would probably scrap all the hanging decorations because dust. You just know that hardwood inlay on the interior of that curvy ass slide was a bitch to install.

No joke; I Adore this. 100/100, would absolutely live here with pure delight - no irony.
The POOL is shaped like a FISH, with a hot tub as the tail!! There's a slide! Beautiful mosaics EVERYWHERE!
I personally am not into the dragon ceiling & wall murals, but that's because there are cooler dragons out there. This is 'van wizard' shit, I'd piss myself in excitement if the dragons had been in the style of ancient mosaics, or a recreation of medieval knights slaying dragons.
Viking table kicks ass. Tilework kicks ass. Bathroom isn't my style, but that's okay~
The OUTSIDE even has mosaic! Ahhh~ <3 <3 <3
