I read that as mildly bad rivers and got really excited for a sub about mediocre waterways...

I love you, Alabama. You’re a trash heap, but dammit, I love yah for it.

u/brandonandtheboyds 22d ago
As someone who lived there for 8 years, you see a lot in Alabama. Some good. Some bad. And some weird shit like this. And when you see weird shit like this, all you can really say is “Hell yeh, brother”. I love it.

Raised in the trash heaps of Phenix City, baby!

I was always confused about the lack of an "o" in Phenix City. Do you know the reason for the spelling?

Cullman is getting famous for way worse things lately, from what I'm hearing

I always go by "just because it didn't/hasn't happened to me doesn't mean it doesn't happen" - especially in a sundown town, as a white person, why would I be experiencing racism there, and who am I to tell people of color that they're safe there
27
u/kiitsunecore 22d ago
yes this is exactly how i feel. i refuse to step foot in cullman because of how dangerous it is for people of color. my wife and i really wanted to go to the christmas market, but once we found out where it was it was totally off the table. not only are we gay, but my wife is black and i would never ever want to put them somewhere i know would be unsafe for them. we were talking about it and they said “well, we COULD go, but i would only feel safe if your family was there too”. i was instantly like “nope not happening”
9
u/OriginalLu 22d ago
Yeah I had the same experience while there, a kind of “whoa”. Especially the “chocolate guns” being sold at the market. Which come to think of it I should probably post here as well.

I live in Cullman. I'm middle aged, straight, white, and optionally armed. If y'all want to go I'll walk with you.
Cullman had a LGBTQ festival last year. Went there with my son (gay). For all the talk, there was no trouble. Just a couple of rednecks standing in the parking lot trying to work up enough courage to protest. They gave up and left.

thats really sweet actually. we probably just wont go, but i really appreciate the offer. youre a kind soul

I, an Afro-Latino who was living/working across Alabama at the time, was headed from a nearby town to Cullman. The white man I was talking to said “Well, shoot. That place kinda like Deliverance. Best get out before the Sun goes down.” I needed no further warning. What am I gunna do? Take that risk? 🤷🏾♂️

u/_bat_girl_ 22d ago
Exactly and everyone aughta know, avoid it and don't spend a dime there! Especially now that I'm seeing people on tiktok promote it as a Hallmark Movie Christmas town. I'll never spend money in a sundown town!

I’ve seen this more than once at various dealerships or other super classy establishments along the I-95

I feel like this is an affront to Mother Nature. Well executed but a complete abomination.

“My wife’s boyfriend broke my jaw with a fence post, and a bouncer in Birmingham hit me in the face with a crescent wrench five times”

u/OriginalLu 23d ago
Assuming they have bouncers, and don’t just casually let you drink with a piece on your hip.

Before I read the description I thought this was an image of the aftermath of extreme weather. A truck basking on rocks like a lizard with a sheet of clear water falling from the back is odd, but much more fun

So a very redneck uncle of mine wanted to make a hot tub for his wife (they were newly weds).
He took a giant plastic tarp and lined the bed of his pickup truck with it. Backed it up to a waterfall on the property until it was full. Then he let it sit in the sun for hours until the water was warmed up.

When they 1st put it in i was stopped at the light right before and was wondering how the truck had infite water then i realized it was fountain. People leave the interstate to come look at it now.

My buddies dad was a doctor in Cullman. That place is…interesting. Nothing but good memories.

It’s different but kind of cool. A good use of an unusable vehicle and good advertising. Like if I were shopping for whatever they’re selling they would definitely get my attention.

this is such impressively poor taste that I can't help but think they're pulling it off, this shouldn't exist yet it's oddly alluring, likely some galactic cognito hazard

As a black woman, I chuckle to myself a little whenever I hear about Cullman doing stupid shit now lol. Seems a very "attention seeking" kind of place.

I've seen a few weird uses for vehicles, that I assume are a way to use a damaged vehicle that is expensive to repair.
I wonder if this truck had a blown engine, or transmission. The business owner puts this up as an advertisement and claims the cost of a "newer-working-vehicle" as a tax discount.
I know a high ranking firefighter, he has used several junk family cars for fire training... similarly, paid a bit more than these vehicles were worth (gonna burn 'em up anyway).

Hey, Bubba, you know how you've been wanting to put in a fountain in front of the building? I've got an idea... Now, hear me out....

Nah it’s just a crap photo, I was riding shotgun and we were making the turn at that moment so I only had a few seconds to tole down the window and take a pic with my beat up iPhone 12.

Cullman, AL is a real scary place. Do not go to the Cracker Barrel at 6:00 on Friday evening, if you are black. As a matter of fact, don’t be outside in this place after dark at all if you’re black.

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Does this look like an AI image to anyone else? Maybe it's the image compression.
From the comments sounds like it's a real place. Just an observation

u/Trainzguy2472 22d ago
A lot of phones offer some sort of AI photo sharpener these days. It's terrible.
